약혼녀 이네즈와 파리로 여행 온 소설가 길. 파리의 화려함을 즐기고 싶어하는 이네즈와 달리 그곳의 낭만을 좋아하는 길은 홀로 파리의 밤거리를 산책하게 된다. 12시를 알리는 종이 울리는 순간 홀연히 나타난 클래식 푸조에 올라탄 길이 도착한 곳은 놀랍게도 1920년대 파리. 그 곳에서 그는 평소에 동경하던 헤밍웨이, 피카소, 달리 등 전설적 예술가들과 친구가 되어 매일 밤 꿈 같은 시간을 보낸다. 어느 날 헤밍웨이와 피카소의 연인 애드리아나를 만나게 된 길은 예술과 낭만을 사랑하는 매혹적인 그녀에게 빠져들게 되는데...

루이 14세, 베르사유, 천국을 만들라는 왕의 명령에 정원사들이 모인다. 대대로 정원관리를 맡아오던 ‘르 노트르(마티아스 쇼에나에츠)’는 최고의 정원사들을 선발하는 과정에서 ‘드 바라(케이트 윈슬렛)’와 만나게 된다. 아무에게도 말하지 못한 상처를 갖고 있던 ‘드 바라’와 계약결혼 생활을 하던 ‘르 노트르’는 서로에게 호감을 느끼지만 서로에게 빠져들수록 베르사유의 정원은 점점 천국의 모습과 멀어지는데…

1770년대 말의 프랑스. 곤궁한 소작인들의 삶을 걱정하는 지방귀족 말라부아는 늪지대의 불결한 환경 때문에 전염병이 퍼져 소작인들의 삶이 더욱 피폐해지자 늪지를 메우기로 하고, 궁의 도움을 얻기 위해 베르사유 궁으로 간다. 하지만 관리들이 한낱 촌뜨기 남작의 청을 들어줄 리 만무하다. 말라부아는 좌절하지만, 곧 그는 타고난 재치와 세련된 화법으로 사교계의 관심을 받는다.

The story centers around a graduating class of "less-gifted" students in a private Versailles high school. Only a miracle has brought the students this far along, and after a practical joke misfires and the whole school is dynamited, the students are in deep trouble. They have to present themselves in court for their punishment and it could not be worse: If they don't pass their high-school graduation exams, they go to prison!

Oscar François de Jarjayes was born female, but her father insisted she be raised as a boy as he had no sons. She becomes the captain of the guards at Versailles under King Louis XVI and Marie Antonette. Her privileged, noble life comes under fire as she discovers the hard life of the poor people of France. She is caught up in the French Revolution, and must choose between her loyalty and love.

The young Austrian princess Marie Antoinette is arranged to marry Louis XVI, future king of France, in a politically advantageous marriage for the rival countries. The opulent Marie indulges in various whims and flirtations. When Louis XV passes and Louis XVI ascends the French throne, his queen's extravagant lifestyle earns the hatred of the French people, who despise her Austrian heritage.

소위 많이 알려진 사람들의 사생활은 비교적 잘 보호되어 있다. 특히 정치가들의 사생활은 때론 정치생활에 치명타가 될 수도 있기에 철저하게 베일에 가려진 경우가 많다. 미국의 제 3대 대통령이었던 토마스 제퍼슨의 사생활. 실제 제퍼슨은 아내와 사별한 후 독신으로 살았다는 것이 정설이지만, 영화는 그가 아내와 사별한 후 연인을 사귀었고, 또 노예에게도 빠져 들었다는 이야기를 한다. 제퍼슨의 인생에서 유일하고도 전부인 여자가 되고 싶었던 딸은 아버지의 행동에서 혼란을 겪는다. 1780년 파리에서 미국 대사로 재직하던 제퍼슨의 이러한 사생활을 중심으로 영화는 이야기를 풀어간다. '미국 민주주의의 아버지'라고 불리는 제퍼슨조차 인간적 상황을 벗어날 수 없다? 어떤 인간도 사랑이라는 의식적이지 않은 함정을 피해갈 수 없다고 한다면, 한펀으로는 착잡하고 한편으로는 흥미진진하지 않은가? (최상희)

Docudrama about the life of Louis XIV nicknamed "the Sun King", the King of France who ran a glamorous court, expanded the borders of France, loved women and parties and built an incredible palace for himself - the Versailles.

Witty narration follows the history of Versailles Palace; founded by Louis XIII, enlarged by autocratic Louis XIV, whose personal affairs and amours, and those of his two successors, are followed in more detail to the start of the Revolution, after which the story is brought rapidly up to date. A huge cast plays mainly historical persons who appear briefly.

We are in the year 1871. A journalist for Versailles Television broadcasts a soothing and official view of events while a Commune television is set up to provide the perspectives of the Paris rebels. On a stage-like set, more than 200 actors interpret characters of the Commune, especially the Popincourt neighbourhood in the XIth arrondissement. They voice their own thoughts and feelings concerning the social and political reforms. The scenes consist mainly of long camera takes.

M2M's first original long-form documentary, Battle at Versailles, follows an event in 1973 at Palace of Versailles where top French designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin faced of against American newcomers Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein and Halston. That pitted France’s best designers against the best America had to offer. It was the first time the fashion world's gaze was fixated on American design.
