시놉시스
Anwar Wagdi plays vagabond musician Alfredo, who comes across an abandoned baby in the night. He tries his best to get our heroes someone to take it and raise it. When that fails, he has no choice but to raise it on his own. He names the child, Dabab, after the beautiful woman he's encountered on the street. Years pass and Dahab grows up to be the Faryuz, who is actually cute, talented and far less grating than our Ms. Temple. Many Chaplinesque hijinks ensue as Alfredo and Dahab play music on the streets, try to scam free food wherever they can and convince the owner of a successful nightclub to let Dahab perform.

Tony Marvin is a laid back but incredibly successful promoter and fair-haired boy for J. P. Todhunter's pineapple company located in beautiful Hawaii. He gets the company to sponsor a contest in which the winner gets a Hawaiian vacation and is obligated to write articles on the islands which, when published, will constitute a publicity coup for the company. Unfortunately, Georgia Smith, the winner, feels lonely and isolated in the Islands and wants to return to the States. With help from buddy Shad Buggle Tony tries to romantically divert Georgia without letting her know his true motivation.

1900년대초 피츠버그시, 독실한 기독교 신자이자 천성적으로 동정심이 많은 케이트 소펠부인(Kate Soffel: 다이앤 키튼 분)은 형무소장(Warden Allegheny Co. Prison)인 남편 피터(Peter K. Soffel: 에드워드 허만 분)와 그리고 새 자녀와 함께 비교적 유복한 생활을 하고 있다. 그러나 언제부터인지 모르게 남편과의 결혼생활에는 건널 수 없는 깊은 골이 점점 패여가고 있음을 느끼고 결국 두 사람은 준별거 상태에 도달하게 된다. 설상가상으로 큰 딸인 아이린(Irene Soffel: 트리니 알바라도 분)마저 부모에게 반항적이 되어간다.
이에 중년에 갓 접어든 한 여성으로서 케이트 소펠 부인은 뭔가 돌파구를 찾으려 한다. 그 돌파구는 케이트의 다정다감한 성품과 독실한 신앙의 범위를 벗어나지 못한다. 케이트는 남편이 형무소장으로 있는 형무소의 죄수들 사랑의 복음을 전파하고 또 형무소의 여러가지 궂은 일을 맡아서 한다. 그러던 중 자신은 죄가 없다고 주장하는 사형수 에드워드 비들(Ed Biddle: 멜 깁슨 분)에게 관심을 가지고 어떻게든 그가 사형당하기 전에 그를 교화시켜 보려고 하나 거친 성품의 에드워드는 도무지 케이트의 말을 들으려 하질 않는다. 그런 날이 하루이틀 지속되면서 둘은 서로에게 좀더 많은 관심을 가지게 되고 케이트의 막연한 동정심과 자비는 애정으로 바뀌어 가정과 사랑을 선택해야 하는 갈등을 겪으면서도 케이트는 에드의 탈옥을 돕는다.
동료 죄수이자 동생인 잭(Jack Biddle: 매튜 모딘 분)과 함께 탈옥을 한 에드는 케이트를 찾아가 함께 도망칠 것을 강권한다. 케이트는 주저하면서도 결국 에드에 대한 사랑의 힘에 끌려 그 길로 도피길에 나선다. 그들의 탈옥 소식은 온세상을 발칵 뒤집어 놓고 그들을 죽이거나 체포해 오는 자에겐 거액의 현상금까지 내걸린다. 추격의 손길은 시시각각으로 다가오는 가운데에서도 에드와 케이트는 모처럼만에 훈훈한 인간 본연의 연정을 만끽한다.
방송국 청소부로 일하는 조는 우연한 기회에 라디오 토크쇼에 출연해 부모를 찾으러 다니며 겪은 사연을 이야기하게 된다. 부모에 대한 단서를 주리라 기대하고 찾아간 사람은 연쇄 살인범이었다는 식의 황당한 이야기가 방송되면서 조는 일약 유명인사가 된다. 결국 조는 부모를 찾는 대신 사랑을 얻게 된다.
