불분명한 시기, 어느 해 5월. 화성인이 지구에 나타난다. 세계 평화 유지와 자유 진영의 지도자임을 자청하는 미국 대통령 제임스 데일은 이들은 맞을 채비를 한다. 그러나 평화를 원한다던 화성인들은 네바다 사막에서 대기 중이던 지구의 환영단 케이시 대장을 비롯한 환영인파를 무참히 사살해버린다. 이러한 사태의 원인이 커뮤니케이션의 문화적 차이라고 판단한 제임스는 화성인과의 재교신을 시도한다. 이 교신에서 화성인들이 공식적인 사과문을 보내오자 제임스와 각료들은 기뻐하지만....

생일 파티에 고용된 광대가 짓궂은 아이들의 장난에 의해 죽게 된다. 몇 년 후 블랙매직의 힘을 빌어 되살아난 광대는 자신을 죽게 만든 아이들에 대한 복수를 시작한다. '킬러 광대'만큼 심야상영에 적합한 영화는 없는 것 같다. 코미디와 호러를 배합한 '킬러 광대'는 물론 예술성이 있는 작품이 아니다. 아니 오히려 철저하게 예술성을 배제한 영화라고 보면 된다. 단순히 관객들의 즐거움을 선사하기 위해 만든 이 작품은 어설프게 관객에게 의미심장한 메시지를 전달한다거나 감독의 연출력을 내보이고 싶어 하지 않는다. 처음부터 끝까지 별 생각 없이 즐기시면 되는 영화다. 그렇다고 해서 이 영화 자체가 어설프다는 이야기는 절대 아니다. 오히려 관객에게 즐거움을 선사하기 위해서 철저히 ‘배려’된 작품이다. 잔인함과 코믹함이 완벽하게 배합된 '킬러 광대'는 두 가지를 다 원하는 관객들에겐 더 없이 ‘훌륭한’ 호러 코미디다. 잔인한 장면도 많이 있으니 단순한 코미디라고 생각하시는 분들은 피해 주시길...
