때는 제2차 세계대전. 체코의 작은 마을에도 나치의 마수는 어김없이 드리워지고, 유대인의 상업행위에도 제동이 걸린다. 이로 인해 가난하고 어수룩한 소작농 토노에게 귀가 들리지 않는 노년의 유대인 과부 로잘리가 운영하는 단추 가게를 가로챌 기회가 찾아온다. 동서가 기관원인 든든한 빽을 둔 덕에 공짜로 가게를 차지하게 된 토노와 졸지에 피고용인 신분이 되어버린 로잘리의 사이가 좋지 않은 건 너무도 당연한 일이다. 하지만 매일같이 투닥거리는 와중에도 토노는 로잘리에게 진심 어린 우정을 느끼게 되고, 며칠 뒤 그녀가 아우슈비츠에 끌려갈 운명임을 알게 되자 감당할 수 없는 혼란에 빠져든다.

유럽으로 배낭여행을 떠난 미국인 배낭족 팩스턴과 조쉬는 여행도중 만난 올리와 함께 암스테르담에 머물던 중 알렉스라는 남자를 만난다. 그는 슬로바키아에 가면 ‘미녀와 멋진 하룻밤’을 보낼 수 있다며 어느 호스텔을 알려준다. 이들은 슬로바키아의 브라티슬라바로 향하고 그곳에서 기대 만큼이나 멋진 꿈 같은 밤을 보낸다. 하지만 그 다음날 갑자기 올리가 사라지고, 같은 호스텔에 묵고 있던 일본인 배낭여행족 유키도 행방불명이 된 것을 알게 된다. 이후 조쉬 마저 연락이 두절되자 무언가 이상한 느낌을 갖게 된 팩스턴은 친구들을 찾아 나섰다가 끔찍한 고문실에 갇히고 마는데…

A film adaptation of the novelette of the same title written by Dominik Tatarka depicts the life of a young generation of artists that was formed in Slovakia during the war. Anabella, a young and beautiful girl meets a group of artists. She awakens their erotic desires but also pure feelings of love; she becomes the object of their secret fantasies as well as their artistic inspiration. And it seems that the boundaries between reality and fantasy suddenly cease to exist.

The first part talks about Jánošík's childhood, studies and return to his native village. In the second part Jánošík leaves for the hills, where he organizes his band of brigands and starts an anti-feudal resistance. The film concludes with Jánošík's execution.

He was a central character of a community of young, open-minded people and his band Pigura was their connecting point. That was Bratislava (Slovak republic) in the 90s.
