침팬치를 제작한 디즈니 네이쳐가 베어스로 돌아왔다. 곰 가족의 일년의 생활이 엄마곰 스카이가 그녀의 귀여운 두 아기곰 앰버와 스콧에게 인생에 필요한 중요한 교육을 하는 모습을 통해 보여진다. 장엄한 알래스카를 배경으로 겨울의 끝에서 시작된 그들의 여정은 겨울잠에서 깨어나 조금 춥고, 흥미롭지만 매우 위험하기도 한 바깥 세상을 만나면서 펼쳐진다. 사랑스러운 동물 가족이 지구에서 가장 광활한 야생에서 살아내기 위한 노력들이 놀라운 영상으로 담아졌다.

카시 삼부작의 첫 작품. ‘코야니스카시’란 호피 족 인디언 말로 ‘균형 깨진 삶'라는 뜻이다. 뚜렷한 내러티브도 대사도 없이 그저 음악과 영상으로만 되어 있는 이 영화는, 고대 인디언들이 그린 벽화에서 시작한다. 이후 광활하고 경외로운 대자연, 그리고 인간이 약간의 가공을 가한, 노동하는 인간과 함께 하는 자연을 그린다. 이후 정신없이 빠른 속도로 굴러가는 도시를 묘사하는 씬으로 오면, 자연과 완전히 등을 진 채 오롯이 인간이 만든 인공적인 환경 속에서 속도와 파괴에 지배당하는 인간의 도시문명이 대비된다. 도시 문명의 속도는 점점 심해져 클라이막스에서는 거의 기하학적 무늬로 표현되며 현기증을 준다.

아기 침팬지 오스카는 엄마와 함께 정글 속에서 생활하고 있었다. 그러던 어느날 갑자기 경쟁 침팬지 무리에게 습격당한 후, 오스카는 외톨이가 되었다. 혼자 살아남기 위해 발버둥 치고 있는 와중에, 다자란 어른 수컷에게 입양된다.

남 아프리카로 여행을 온 뉴먼 가족. 아버지인 톰을 제외한 나머지 가족들은 초원을 구경하면서 시간을 보낸다. 하지만 차량이 사자들의 사냥 영역으로 들어가고 당황한 가족들 앞에서 가이드가 처참하게 사냥을 당한다. 사자들은 고립된 가족들을 먹이로 보고 파상적인 공격을 감행한다. 톰은 가족들이 어딘가에서 길을 잃은 것을 알고 지역 사냥꾼을 고용하여 가족들을 구출하기 위하여 길을 나선다. 한편 가족들은 모든 것을 포기한 최후의 순간에, 갑자기 나타난 원주민 사자 사냥꾼의 도움으로 구사일생으로 위기를 모면한다. 하지만 동료를 잃은 사자들의 공격은 더욱 잔인해 지고.......

행크는 아프리카 고원에서 동물을 연구하여 동물과 같이 살아간다. 공항으로 마중나가려던 행크는 마침 아프리카 당국의 밀림 사육 관리들이 찾아와 동물들을 보호 구역으로 내쫓으라고 하자 이에 항의하다가 가족들의 도착 시간을 놓친다. 가족들은 온갖 고생끝에 지친 몸으로 행크의 짐을 찾아오나 그는 보이지 않고 수십마리의 사자와 호랑이들이 그들을 맞이한다. 집안에서 동물들에게 쫓기는 가운데 밤이 깊어 가족들은 창고에 쓰러져 잠이 든다. 이윽고 허겁지겁 집에 돌아온 행크는 가족과 반가운 재회를 한다.

The Aborigines' belief is not shared by a giant mining company, which wants to tear open the soil and search for uranium.
