캘리포니아주 랜쵸 카르네 고등학교내의 치어리더 팀, 샌디에고 토로스는 미국 치어리더 경연대회에서 5년 연속으로 우승한 최강팀이다. 팀의 새 주장(캡틴)으로 뽑힌 토랜스 쉽맨(Torrance Shipman: 커스틴 던스트 분)에게 이제 6년 연속 우승의 기대감이 모아진다. 대회를 몇 주 앞둔 어느날, 토랜스는 자신들이 대회용으로 준비하고 있는 안무가 다른 팀 것을 도용한 것임을 발견하고 극심한 수치심과 혼란에 빠진다. 바로 토로스의 전 팀장이 가난한 동네에 위치한 이스트 캠튼 교의 치어리더 팀 클로버스로부터 도용한 것이다. 이제 토로스는 얼마남지 않은 준비기간동안 새로운 안무를 만들어야 한다. 한편, 아이시스(Isis: 가브리엘 유니언 분)가 이끄는 클로버스 팀은 가난한 팀 사정상 경연대회로 가기 위한 여비를 벌기위하여 여념이 없다. 드디어 결전의 날은 다가오고, 우승은 한 팀만의 것이다. 토로스와 클로버스는 자신들의 최선을 다하여 경기에 임하는데.

1963년 베이비(제니퍼 그레이)라는 애칭의 프란시스는 의사인 아버지 제이크(제리 오바하)와 어머니 마조리, 언니 리사와 함께 켈러만 산장으로 피서를 간다. 같은 또래의 젊은이들이 많이 있는 그곳에서는 저녁이면 댄스 파티를 즐긴다. 그러다 베이비는 댄스 교사 자니(패트릭 스웨이즈)와 그의 파트너인 페니(신시아 로즈)가 추는 춤에 매료된다. 베이비는 임신한 페니 대신 댄스 경연대회에 나가기 위해 연습을 하고 춤을 추면서 자니와 베이비는 사랑에 빠진다. 그러나 페니가 돌팔이 의사에게 중절수술을 받고 사경을 헤매게 되지만 의사인 베이비 아버지의 도움으로 살아나지만 자니는 아이의 아버지로 오인받고 해고된다. 피서 마지막 발표회에서 돌연 등장한 자니는 베이비와 환상적 더티댄싱을 선보인다.

2005년 12월, 다니엘 맥고원(Daniel McGowan)은 지구해방전선(ELF)과 연관된 급진 환경주의자들에 대한 전국가적인 수색작업을 실시한 연방 기구에 의해 체포되었다. 이 단체는 FBI가 미국 내 “최고의 국내 테러리즘의 위협”이라고 부르는 단체이다. 수년 동안, ELF는 중앙 리더가 없이 분리된 익명의 조직들로 운영되고 있었는데, 이들이 환경을 파괴하고 있다고 고발했었던 수십 개의 회사들에 대해 엄청난 방화를 개시하게 된다. 목재 회사, SUV 대리점, 야생마 도축장, 그리고 콜로라도 주 베일의 1천 2백만 달러 가치의 스키 관리 사무소 등이다. 정부는 다니엘 외 13명을 체포하였고, 미국 내 아마도 가장 컸던 ELF 조직을 잡았으며, 가장 최초로 ELF 방화에 책임을 가진 단체를 붕괴시켰다. 이 영화는, 한 조직원의 변화와 급진화에 초점을 맞추어, 이 ELF 조직의 흥망에 대한 엄청난 이야기를 전하고 있다. 성인이 되는 시기의 이야기, 경찰관과 강도놀이 같은 스릴러 등의 이야기를 보여주면서, 이 영화는 곧 감옥에 갈 예정이며 가택연금 상태에 있는 다니엘의 진실된 연대기를 섞고 있다. 이 이야기에는 이 집단과 그가 연관을 맺게 된 사건들을 드라마적으로 이야기 하고 있다. 또한 이렇게 영화가 흘러가다가, 환경, 운동, 그리고 우리가 테러리즘이라고 정의하는 방식에 대한 어려운 질문을 던진다. Fourteen-year-old Jasmin longs to be near her biological mother, Eva. Following her mother’s release from prison, an excursion into the country together becomes a first test for the fledgling mother-daughter relationship. They smoke, dance and stroll together – the mood is promising. But time and again, it is revealed that their needs and expectations are light years apart. For the moment, neither Eva nor Jasmin seem up to the task of fulfilling each other’s need for identity and support. (Talea is Italian for scion, a detached shoot or twig containing buds from a woody plant, used in grafting.)

Marion is a 14 year old girl, on holidays at the sea. She is in conflict with her mother and family. She meets a man there, to whom she feels close. Back in Paris, she goes to see him again. For the first time, she is going to make love.

This poignant human drama is phrased as a "small sonata" in three movements -- a novel approach by director and writer Micheline Lactôt to tell the story of two teenage girls. In the first movement, Chantal (Pascale Bussieres) rides the same bus every day and slowly develops an infatuation with the bus driver. Their interactions are expressed through gestures and glances and facial expressions, but not words. Just as Chantal is getting old enough, and maybe courageous enough to actually say something to the driver, fate steps in and she loses her chance. In the second movement, Louisette (Marcia Pilote) hides out on a fishing boat and is discovered by a Bulgarian fisherman who treats her with kindness and consideration and they spend a special evening together -- without being able to speak a word in the other's language. In the third movement, Chantal and Louisette become friends, and as kindred spirits they share a sense of loss and hopelessness.
