(보도자료 인용) 학교에 들어간 동동은 여름방학을 맞아 여동생 정정과 외삼촌 창민, 그리고 창민의 애인 벽운과 함께 외갓집에 간다. 동동의 어머니는 몸이 아파 병원에 입원한 상태이다. 동동은 외갓집에서 시골 친구들과 즐거운 시간을 보낸다. 동동의 어머니 병이 악화되어 수술을 한다는 편지가 날아오자 집안 분위기는 뒤숭숭해진다. 벽운이 임신을 하자 벽운의 어머니가 집으로 찾아오고, 창민은 할어버지의 분노로 집에서 쫓겨나 벽운과 살림을 차린다. 삼촌의 집에 놀러간 동동은 삼촌이 친구인 강도들을 숨겨주고 있었다는 것을 알게 되고 삼촌은 취조를 받는다. 동동의 어머니가 위독한 상태에서 고비를 넘기고 삼촌은 할아버지가 경찰서에 찾아간 덕에 풀려난다. 방학이 끝나자 동동은 데리러 온 아버지를 따라 집으로 돌아간다
