20세기 초의 혼란스러운 아사쿠사 거리. 무라타 건설회사와 후지노 건설회사는 계약을 둘러싸고 권력 다툼을 벌인다. 이들은 폭력을 동원해 준공식을 지연시키는 등 목숨을 건 싸움을 벌인다. 임신한 아내를 둔 무라타 건설회사의 오가타 역시 이 싸움에 휘말려 어쩔 수 없이 나쁜 임무를 수행해야 한다.

세 명의 말썽꾸러기 조조, 지쇼, 브루스는 동급생 데부나가에게 괴롭힘을 당하는 중이다. 그런데 어느 날 학교 주차장에서 데후나가가 야쿠자에게 유괴 당하는 현장을 목격한 뒤 데부나가를 구하기 위해 길을 나선다. 그리고 이 이상한 여행 과정에서 야쿠자, 부패 경찰, 선생님 등과 복잡한 관계에 놓인다.

메이지 시대, 희대의 독부로 불리운 여자가 있었다. 그녀의 이름은 다카하시 오덴! 남자와 헤어진 후 빠져들게 된 악행 속에서 슬프고도 애욕적인 그녀의 파란만장한 삶이 펼쳐진다.

자유분방한 배우가 우연히 살인 사건을 목격하고, 검찰측의 증인이 되기로 한다. 사건의 당사자인 신흥 종교 집단이 그녀를 위험에 빠뜨릴지도 모른다는 판단에 경시청은 그녀를 보호해 줄 형사를 파견하기로 한다. 그러나 그녀는 사생활을 즐기기 위해 형사들을 따돌리는데... 헤이세이 4년(1992년), 민사개입폭력을 테마로 한 〈민법의 여자(ミンボーの女)〉의 개봉 중 이타미 감독은 폭력단원에게 습격을 받아 미야모토와 함께 신변보호 대상자가 되었다. 이 영화는 그 때의 경험을 바탕으로 살인사건을 우연히 목격한 여배우와 사건에 휘말리는 걸트 집단으로부터 그녀를 지키는 형사들의 고전기로서 각본을 집필했다. 말괄량이 여배우와 진지한 형사와의 티격태격하는 모습이 지금까지와는 다른 맛의 재미를 그리고 있으며 무엇보다도 미야모토의 격앙된 모습이 주목을 끈다.

Machida (Shintaro Katsu) is in constant trouble because of his instincts to do right every time, even when it endangers his life. A gang hires him for his "forceful personality," and assigns him to kill evil people, a president of a loan company and a drug baron.

Thomas Hoshino (Willson) is a tough Japanese detective, who lost his partner by a deadly Yakuza killer Jaho (Lew). He tracks down the killer and his master to Los Angeles, where he teams up with Det. Soon, Yoichiro's first love while studying in France, Sandra, finds her, which makes Yuki's heart surge. After several twists and turns, Yoichiro decided to marry Yuki, but the trials never stopped...

Akiko is the heir to a yakuza clan. Hitoshi, who has been kicked out of the rival Hono Clan after attempting to seduce Akiko, kidnaps her at the behest of Hanamura. Hanamura has formed a new gang and intends to use Akiko as a hostage to take over her clan's territory. During the torture and abuse sessions which follow, Akiko comes to enjoy the treatment and forsakes her gangland empire.

An ex-naval intelligence officer is forced to assassinate a CEO when his daughter is kidnapped by the Yakuza.

『極道の妻たち』（야쿠자의 아내들)은 1986년 토에이 쿄토 촬영제작소, 토에이 배급이 공개한 야쿠자 영화 이다. 감독은 고샤히데오로 계속 되는 호평으로 여 주인공 감독이 교체되면서 시리즈화 되었다. 통칭으로 『極妻（ごくつま）』。라고도 한다. 최신작은 『極道の妻たち 情炎』（15번째 작품）이다. 극장 개봉용으로는 1998년 발표한 10번째 시리즈 『極道の妻たち 決着（けじめ）』으로 일단락 지어졌다.
