In a village in the Ardennes, during the German occupation, finding rations is becoming almost impossible. Clovis, an ordinary labourer, decides to cross the occupied zone to bring back enough potatoes to feed his family. His plan is a success but Clovis rapidly becomes obsessed with storing the precious tubers.

제1차 세계대전에서 영국군에 맞서 싸우던 독일군은 프랑스의 한 작은 마을에 폭발물을 심어둔다. 영국군이 도착하면 그 폭발물이 터져 마을이 쑥대밭이 되는 것이다. 이 소식을 들은 마을 사람들은 모두 도망을 갔다. 그런데 근처에 있는 한 정신병원 환자들은 병원 문이 열려 있는 걸 보고 처음엔 망설였지만, 이내 그들도 병원에서 탈출하여 마을로 향하게 된다. 영국군인 찰스는 폭발물 해체 임무를 맡고 이 마을에 도착한다. 그리고 장군, 헤어드레서, 광대, 매음굴 마담 복장을 한 정신병원 환자들이 마을을 장악한 것을 발견하게 된다. 정신병원에서 뛰쳐나온 그들은 찰스가 꿈꿔오던 삶을 살고 있는 듯 보였다. 그리고 그들은 찰스를 그들의 왕으로 맞이하였다. 찰스는 자신이 마법과도 같은 네버-네버랜드에 와있는 것이라고 생각한다. 그는 그 ‘미친’ 사람들의 친절함과 인간적인 모습에 감동을 받는다. 그리고 무시무시한 전쟁을 일으키고 있는 사람들이 그들보다 더 미친 사람들이라고 생각하기에 이른다. 또한 ‘코쿨리코’라는 아름다운 여성을 만나 사랑에 빠지게 된다.

Reichau, a former army captain, is back in France after serving three years in prison for belonging to the OAS (Secret Armed Organization), a dissident paramilitary group during the Algerian War. An anthology film consisting of four stories. (1) A man reads a Dracula novel while in bed, but cannot seem to tell the novel from reality, causing sleep troubles. (2) A man cannot escape the absurd ads he saw at the movie theater that day. (3) A polluted and construction ridden town keeps everybody on edge, sending one man to the doctor. (4) A hunter, a farmer and a couple on a picnic unknowingly cause continuous trouble one another.

프랑스의 한 박물관에서 말타 문명의 조각상이 도난 당하는 사건이 발생한다. 원래 이 조각상은 3개가 한 세트인데, 이 조각상을 발견한 고고학자와 수집가가 각각 소유하고 있던 것이다. 여주인공 아그네스가 고고학자였던 아버지의 유언으로 조각상 하나의 행방을 알고 있었고, 그녀는 박물관에서 조각상을 훔쳤던 집단에 의해 납치를 당한다. 이때 마침 휴가를 나온 아그네스의 약혼자이자 공군 파일롯인 애드리안 (장 폴 벨몽도)가 아그네스를 쫓아 그녀가 납치된 브라질의 리오에서 모험을 펼친다는 내용이다.

While his wife impatiently waits and gets drunk, a husband tries to get the appropriate anniversary gifts and fight his way home through traffic in time for their celebratory lunch. It won an Oscar in 1963 for Best Short Subject.

파리에 사는 여러 계층의 사람들의 어느날의 사건이 그려진다. 주인공은 좀 이상스런 얘기이지만 '파리'라고 보아야 할 것이다. 펜팔 애인을 만나러 파리 시내까지 찾아온 시골처녀가 편지의 내용이 거짓말이었다는 것을 알고 실망한 채 걷고 있는데 그만 정신 이상이 된 조각가에게 살해되며 조각가는 경찰관에게 사살된다. 패션모델은 애인인 의과 대학생이 금년에도 국가시험에 실패했으므로 실망하게 된다. 미치광이 조각가를 쏜 경찰관의 유탄(流彈)으로 중상을 입게 된 공원(工員)은 시험담력(試驗膽力)이 없는 의과 대학생의 대수술로 연명을 한다. 이 공원은 동맹파업으로 일을 쉬고 있었으므로 결혼기념일의 축하 술에 취해서 들떠 있을 때였다. 무작정 고양이를 좋아하는 늙은 처녀는 고양이의 먹이를 찾아 헤매며 어느날 하루종일 파리 시내를 걸어 다닌다. 공부를 몹시 싫어하는 계집아이는 집으로 돌아가지 않고 사내아이와 센강에서 보트 놀이를 하다가 날이 저물어서 미아가 되었는데, 미치광이 조각가의 도움으로 자기 집으로 무사히 돌아간다.

"Le Tambourin", a Montmartre nightclub, is on its way down. Although it can boast great performances by the alluring Les Bluebell Girls and by Jacques Hélian's lively Big Band the venue does not attract people anymore. Nightclub patrons now prefer the jazz cellars of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Taking this new taste into account, the staff of the "Tambourin" and Jacques Hélian decide to set up their own club, "La Pivoine Ecarlate". They are joined by Pâquerette, a flower vendor and amateur singer, and by Jean-Pierre Francis, an existentialist poet...

Envoi de Fleurs is based on incidents in the life of French composer Paul Delmet. Played by popular French singing star Tino Rossi, Delmet is depicted as a man all too willing to give up personal happiness in favor of blind ambition. After carrying on a romance by correspondence with beautiful young Suzanne (Micheline Francey), Delmet is on the verge of marrying the girl. Instead, he allows himself to be talked out of leaving France to further his own career, with disastrous results for all concerned.

Gaston Bernod is a Parisian bus driver. Honest, upright and hard-working, he is held in high esteem by his superiors. Gaston has always pampered "his" bus, going as far as to equip it with a fuel-saving device of his invention. Very close to his vehicle, he may have somewhat neglected his wife Paulette, who lets herself got round by the smooth words of Pierrot. The gigolo has indeed managed to persuade her to follow him to the Mont Saint-Michel, "a wonderful nest for their burgeoning love" as he says. The trouble is that Gaston, while driving his dear 84, catches sight of the car, and suddenly aware of his misfortune, sees red. He immediately sets off in pursuit of the culprits, involving his load of helpless passengers in the chase.
