More than 40 years after making "Cléo de 5 à 7," Agnes Varda invites her star, two other cast members, and her assistant directors to look back. She takes us through the film, from opening scene to the end, visiting its Paris locales, placing her aged actors in the same spots, telling stories, and listening to others' reflections on the making of the film. She and they talk about making a film on a low budget, its showing at Cannes, and trying to fix a problem in the last shot. Her assistant directors discuss casting, costumes, sets, and the ways the film changed their approaches to filmmaking.

스스로 자기 작품의 요체와 제작 과정, 영화에 대한 자신의 견해를 피력하는 영화-강의다. 키아로스타미가 체리의 맛의 후반부에 등장했던 굽이치는 산길과 텐에 등장했던 테헤란 시내를 직접 운전하면서 10가지의 주제를 이야기한다. 10개의 강의 주제 중 가장 경청할 만한 부분은 2장의 카메라다. 작업실 화재사건으로 체리의 맛 봄의 기후에 해당하는 가장 중요한 부분을 유실한 그는 다음해 봄까지 기다릴 수 없어 비디오 카메라로 촬영한 뒷이야기 장면과 남아있는 러시 필름을 혼합해 에필로그 부분을 완성했다. 이를 계기로 디지털 카메라에 관심을 가지게 된 그는 ABC아프리카, 텐, 파이브에서 디지털 카메라를 사용하게 된다. 키아로스타미는 디지털 카메라의 가능성을 전제로 주제, 대본, 로케이션/세트, 음악, 배우, 감독 등 나머지 8가지 테마를 주제로 자신의 영화적 경험 및 해당 주제에 대한 자신의 일반적인 사고를 피력한다. 9장 감독에서 등장하는 텐과 결부된 키아로스타미의 단상은 앞으로 그가 지향해 나갈 영화적 지향점을 설명해 주는 나침반 역할을 한다.

The story begins as enigmatic, Asian tribesman Toli comforts the starved violinist Dimitri that they will be escaping soon. They get their chance when a beautiful herd of Yakut horses begin grazing placidly near where the two are toiling. Sneaking away from the others, they grab tow hand steeds and race off. Unfortunately, Toli is mortally wounded. Just before he dies, he tells Dimitri that he is a powerful shaman and then hands the fiddler a protective amulet. In this way, Toli becomes Dimitri's guardian spirit. The city youth will need all the help he can get as he and his horse must traverse the unforgiving wilds and keep away from guards, alone.

전통적인 수녀원 교육을 받고 자란 농부의 딸 엠마는 낭만적이면서도 상승 욕구가 강한, 그러면서도 평범한 처녀이다. 빼어난 미모나 엄청난 재력과도 거리가 먼 시골 소녀인 그녀는 역시 평범한 의사인 샤를르 보바리와 결혼한다. 낭만적인 사랑, 짜릿한 순간들을 꿈꾸던 그녀에게 샤를르와의 결혼은 지루하기만 했다. 그러던 중 공작의 무도회에 초대받게 되고, 엠마는 처음으로 상류 사회의 무도회에 참석하게 된다. 무도회의 경험은 평생 그녀의 기억 속에 남아 있게 된다. 무도회가 끝나고 다시 평범한 생활로 돌아온 그녀는 일상에 지쳐 곧 우울증에 빠지고 이를 안 샤를르는 엠마의 기분을 위해 큰 도시로 이주한다. 옹발로 이사한 후 엠마는 딸을 낳는다. 여기서 그녀는 로돌프라는 무력하면서 다소 비극적 이미지의 귀족과 사랑에 빠진다. 동시에 그녀는 사치를 하기 시작한다. 하지만 자신의 행동을 후회하곤 한다. 그녀는 마음을 잡기위해 아이를 돌보고 남편을 내조하는데 열중한다. 하지만 이뽈리뜨의 수술이 실패하고 난 후 남편에게 실망한 나머지 로돌프에게 도망갈것을 제안한다. 그러나 그녀는 그에게 거절의 편지를 받고 절망한다. 엠마의 기분 전환을 위해 루엉으로 로페라 나들이를 하게되고, 그때 레옹과 재회하고 그의 사랑고백으로 그들은 가까워진다. 하루이틀 청구서를 미루면서 엠마는 재정적 압박을 받게되고, 레뤠씨에게 위임장을 써 주나 결국은 엄청난 돈을 청구받기에 이른다. 레옹에게도, 로돌프에게도 돈을 빌리지 못한채 모든 희망을 잃은 엠마는 자살을 선택한다.

쉴리코프는 돈을 벌기에 급급한 러시안 택시운전수이고 리오차는 알콜중독에 빠진 유태인 섹스폰 연주자이다. 쉴리코프는 택시요금을 안내고 도망갔던 리오차를 붙잡아 자기밑에 두고 일을 시킨다. 리오차는 쉴리코프가 시키는데로 일하며 용돈을 얻어 술을 마시면서 그와 동거에 들어간다. 가치관이 판이하게 다른 이 두남자는 서로를 비난하면서도 색다른 우정을 쌓아간다. 거의 폐인이었던 리오차는 다시 음악을 하게 되고, 차츰 유명해지면서 쉴리코프와는 멀어진다. 마침내 리오차는 미국까지 가서 연주활동을 하게 되고, 리오차를 이젠 TV화면을 통해서 볼 수 밖에 없는 쉴리코프는 깊은 외로움에 바진다. 어느날 리오차가 쉴리코프를 다시 찾아오고, 그 둘은 서로가 다르면서도 떨어져서는 살 수 없다는 것을 알게 된다. 결국 둘은 서로를 이해하기 보다는 어느 한쪽을 죽이는 것이 쉽다는 것을 깨닫는다.

Joey Wellman, an American cartoonist from Cleveland now largely forgotten at home, visits France with his partner Lena to attend an exhibition in Paris about the comic strip (bande dessinée) which features his work. '파리에서 만들어진 가장 아름다운 영화'라는 평가를 받았던 이 영화는 감독인 아녜스 바르다에게 최초로 국제적인 명성을 가져다주었다. 클레오의 모든 행동과 사건들은 실제로 물리적 시간의 흐름에 따라 묘사됨으로써 그녀가 죽음에 대한 두려움에 사로잡혀 있는 모습과 그 두려움을 벗어나게 되는 과정이 동시적으로 포착된다. 영화 속에서 점차로 그녀는 자기 자신은 물론이고 죽음과 삶에 대한 새로운 시선과 통찰을 향해 나아가기 때문이다. 바르다는 이 작품에서 관습적인 이야기 전개 대신에 사진적인 것과 영화적인 것의 특성을 최대한 활용하고 있는데, 미와 추는 조우하고 그로테스크함(살아있는 개구리를 먹는 남자)과 사랑스러움(클레오의 공적 이미지)은 병치되며, 빛과 어둠, 인공적인 것과 자연적인 것은 시각적 대조를 이루고, 밝은 뮤지컬 코미디와 비극적 드라마가 서로 엮어 들어감으로써 영화는 전반적으로 대립을 통해서 미묘한 결을 구성해간다.
