Three old acquaintances debate different interpretations of the Koran, Christian sects, their lives, and life after death in a tiny, cramped neighborhood barber shop.

Studying engineering and dreaming to go abroad with the Erasmus project to leave behind his small town, Ali is going through a period of self-exploration, asking questions about life. His quiet life is stirred up upon his crush to Gülce, a singer at a folk music cafe. Gülce is a nursing student and to get by, she works as a caregiver to a lonely, elder man in one of the older neighbourhoods of the town. As Ali gets to know Gülce, he becomes involved in the old man’s story too. Ali goes on his search on the threshold of this encounter, asking a question to which he wouldn’t find an answer to: is any happiness possible?

16-year-old Elene is a Georgian illegal immigrant who works at a tea plantation in Turkey. Feeling threatened by various encounters, she tries to be invisible in this foreign land. But it is not as easy as she thinks.

Nesrin and Hatun are two Kurdish cleaning women living in Istanbul. While Nesrin tries to survive with her little daughter, trying to understand why her husband left her, Hatun dreams of buying a house in the district where they clean.

In the remote and undeveloped eastern Black Sea region, a six-year-old boy (Yusuf) wanders through the woods searching for his lost father, trying to make sense of his life.His father is a beekeeper whose bees have disappeared unexpectedly, threatening his livelihood. A bizarre accident kills the father.There is little dialogue or music in the film. The three main characters (Yusuf and his parents) are all fairly taciturn, and the soundtrack is filled out with the sounds of the forest and the creatures that live there.The environment is a recurring theme.

Mithat passionately collects newspapers in his Istanbul flat. The other tenants ridicule him and he lives a lonely life. As the building is to be renovated, Mithat develops a friendship with concierge Ali, another loner, who helps him save his collection. They involuntarily change each other’s fate.

프로이드와 융을 비롯한 수많은 학자들에 의해 활발히 연구되었음에도 불구하고 인간의 정신세계는 아직까지 미지의 영역으로 남아있는 분야중 하나이다. 그것은 또한 몇세기 동안 명백한 동시에 함축적인 학문적 주제로 인식되어 왔다. 누리 빌게 체일란 감독은 “우리에게 가장 호기심을 불러 일으키는 것은 전체를 교란시키는 일탈이라는 문제이다. 그것은 마치 주도로에서 분리되어 나온 보조도로와도 같은 것이다. 예를 들어 원래 매우 용감한 사람이 갑자기 겁을 먹고 유약해지는 경우나 반대로 겁쟁이가 갑자기 용감해지는 순간 같은 것이다. 이러한 종류의 일탈을 통해서 인간 본성과 우리 자신을 이해할 수 있다”라고 말한다. 영화에 등장하는 가족들은 가정을 지키기 위해서 자신은 물론 서로를 속이는 교묘한 거짓말에 신중하게 대처해야만 한다. 그들의 거짓말이 진실을 숨겨주는 것일까, 오히려 드러내는 것일까?

이사(누리 빌게 세일란)와 바하(에브루 세일란)는 함께 휴가를 떠났지만 이제 곧 헤어질 것처럼 서로 말이 거의 없다. 바하는 이사가 더 이상 그녀의 사랑에 보답해 줄 수 없음을 느끼고 말할 수 없는 고통 속에 빠진다. 이사가 더 이상 소통할 수 없음을 털어놓자 그들은 이별하게 된다. 바하는 쓸쓸하게 이스탄불로 돌아오고 이사는 혼자서 몇 일간의 휴가를 떠난다. 그러나 그는 혼자서 오래 견디지 못하고 곧 옛 여자친구인 세랍을 찾지만 이기적인 이사는 그녀와 더 이상 친구로서도 애인으로서도 관계를 지속하지 못한다. 이사는 세랍과의 정사 중에서도 바하를 생각하고 있다는 것을 깨닫고 그녀가 일하는 곳인 터키의 동쪽으로 향한다. 그의 내적인 공허와 감정적 메마름을 억압하기 위해 그는 그녀를 찾아나서는 것이다. 그는 자신이 정말로 변화했다고 애원하면서 그녀를 되찾으려 한다.

Zeynep, Tülin Özen works in a hotel as a housekeeper. But she suffers hell on earth because of her father's behavior. She only talks to Mustafa, 'Engin Dogan' who works in the same hotel and he is interested in Zeynep. She is not interested in Mustafa who is younger than Zeynep, but she is not indifferent to him. While Zeynep is trying to make a bonfire of bad situation, Selçuk, Budak Akalin who lives on the other side of city is a voice technician. He feels guilty after his wife's death. The suitcase which has his wife's dresses changes the Zeynep's destiny.

중년의 사진작가 마흐무트는 아내와 헤어진 후 섹스 파트너인 정부와 외로움을 달래며 하루하루 공허한 삶 속에 희망을 상실한 채 살아간다. 그런 어는 날 일자리를 찾아 고향에서 올라온 사촌동생 유스프의 등장과 함께 두 사람의 사생활은 방해받기 시작한다. 점점 짐이 돼가는 유스프와 섹스파트너인 정부까지 다른 사내에 게 빼앗긴 마흐무트. 일 자리를 찾는 것 보다 도시 여자들의 뒤꽁무니를 쫓기 바뿐 철없는 실업자 유스프. 마흐무트는 결국 유스프를 시계 도둑으로 몰아세우는데....

젊은 영화감독 "무자페르"는 한가로운 전원의 매력을 영화에 담기 위해 자신이 자란 고향의 작은 마을로 돌아와 아버지에게 자신의 영화에 출연할 것을 권한다. 그러나 그의 아버지인 "에민"은 이런 아들의 계획에 함께 할 여유가 없다. 그는 정부에 압류당할 위기에 처한 땅과 수목을 지키기에 급급하고, 마을 사람들 역시 여유있게 영화에 출연 하기엔 현실의 문제가 너무나도 절박한 상황이다. 그러나 이런 사람들의 비협조에도 굴하지 않고 무자페르는 가족과 친구, 어린 조카 "알리"까지 영화에 출연시키기 시작한다. 알리는 40일 간 달걀을 깨뜨리지 않고 주머니 속에 가지고 다니게 되며, 아버지에게 음악 시계를 사주도록 설득해 주겠다는 고모의 약속을 굳게 믿고 있다. 또한 무자페르는 대입 시험에 실패한 사촌 "사펫"도 영화 촬영장으로 불러들인다. 사펫은 계속되는 불운 때문에 실패만 맛보는 젊은이다. 드디어 촬영이 시작되고 무자페르의 상상력은 다른 무엇보다도 우선한다.

터키의 작은 마을의 여름밤. 가족들은 농장의 모닥불아래 모여앉아 저마다의 이야기를 시작한다. 마을을 벗어나고 싶어하는 사촌, 터키의 옛 영광을 이야기하는 아버지, 2차대전에서 살아 돌아온 할아버지, 돌아오지 않는 삼촌. 아이들은 자장가 삼아 그 이야기를 들으며 그들이 뛰어 노는 숲과 들에 대한 향수를 느낀다.
