2011년 3월 11일, 동일본 대지진을 겪은 감독은 메이지유신과 2차 대전을 포함해 역사 속 큰 사건들의 비극적 순간을 그리기로 한다. 감독은 나가오카를 찾은 기자 레이코를 중심으로 시공간을 자유롭게 넘나들며 극영화, 다큐멘터리, 연극, 애니메이션 등 다양한 화법을 이용해 나가오카에 살았던 평범한 사람들의 기억을 재현한다. 과감한 실험적 형식이 돋보이는 작품.

Keiko who leads a lonely life as a fortune teller on the streets meets Goro, a leader of the con-artists. One day, Goro witnesses a group of men kidnapping a middle-aged man in the parking garage. Goro records the man on his cell phone without knowing he could be in big trouble.

중학교 3학년 가즈오의 반에 귀여운 소녀 카즈미가 전학을 온다. 첫눈에 가즈오를 알아 본 카즈미, 사실 둘은 어릴 적 소꿉친구였다. 흐릿한 기억을 되살려 어린 시절 추억의 장소를 가기로 한 둘은 숲 속 샘터에 물을 뜨러 간다. 그런데 실수로 둘은 물에 빠지게 되고 물에 흠뻑 젖은 가즈오와 카즈미는 각자 집으로 향한다. 집에 돌아온 둘은 자신들의 몸에 일어난 믿을 수 없는 변화를 알게 된다. 카즈오와 카즈미의 몸이 뒤바뀐 것이다. 어쩔 수 없이 서로의 인생을 살게 된 카즈오와 카즈미, 둘은 조금씩 서로를 이해하고 그들의 사이는 가까워진다. 그러던 어느 날 카즈오가 들어가 있는 카즈미 몸에 큰 병이 생기고 만다. 자신의 운명을 대신 짊어져야 하는 카즈오에게 미안한 마음뿐인 카즈미, 그런 카즈미를 위로하는 카즈오, 둘의 따뜻한 이야기가 펼쳐지는데...

가와세 아이는 24년 전에 사라졌던 자신의 딸 미와의 소식을 듣는다. 기억을 잃어버린 딸이 다른 이름으로 살고 있었으며 최근 아동 유괴범으로 경찰에 체포당했다는 것이다. 큰 혼란에 빠진 아이는 서둘러 딸을 만나지만 두 사람이 진짜 모녀란 것을 확신할 수 없다. 그리고 아이의 눈에 깨진 거울이 들어온다. 그녀의 집에 있는 것과 똑같이 깨진 거울을 보며 아이는 과거를 떠올린다.

Naoto Ogata plays Sadajiro, a young farmer fighting out the battle of the riot through to the end. Sadajiro's wife is played by Hiromi Iwasaki, his father is played by Go Kato and Ryuzo Hayashi plays a leader of the Riot. The Riot in Gujo is called one of the biggest three riots in the Edo Period as it took almost 5 years to settle and also involved the Edo government. This movie is a period film about the riot and Gujo farmers fighting for their tenacity of purpose. The farmers had suffered enough from heavy taxes and decided to rise up in riot when the domain lord, Yorikane, issued a new act, which practically forced tax increases. Asking the lord to retract the act, they pour down to the Hachiman Castle. For once they attain the repeal deed signed by the chief retainer. However the promise is broken. Now the farmers decide to make a direct plea to the Edo Residence…This film is full tension and breathless moments.
