링크 존스(게리 쿠퍼 분)는 마을에서 가르칠 선생을 데려오기 위해 주민들이 모아준 소중한 돈을 가지고 열차에 몸을 싣는다. 처음 보는 열차의 위용에 잠시 멈칫하지만 의연하게 열차에 탑승해서 여정을 시작한다. 그런데 열차가 목재와 물을 싣기 위해 정차하는 동안 무장 강도단의 습격을 받는다. 열차는 링크 존스를 비롯해서 열차의 승객인 빌리(줄리 런던 분), 그리고 샘(아서 오코넬)을 남겨둔 채 가까스로 빠져나간다. 남겨진 셋은 일행이 되어 인가를 향해 걷기 시작하는데 가수 출신의 아름다운 여인 빌리는 링크의 사내다운 풍모에 호감을 느낀다. 링크는 외떨어진 집을 발견하자 경계를 하며 빌리와 샘을 대피시킨 채 홀로 집으로 들어서지만 빈집이 아니었다. 열차를 습격했던 토빈 일당의 거처였던 것. 그리고 빌리와 샘까지 토빈 일당의 볼모로 붙잡히면서 링크가 살인과 도적질을 일삼던 토빈의 패거리였음이 밝혀지는데...

Like most serials in the '50s, Riding with Buffalo Bill consisted of quite a bit of budget-stretching stock footage telling a highly fictionalized account of Buffalo Bill Cody aiding a group of ranchers in their defeat of a local crime lord. The serial's assistant director, Leonard Katzman, later produced the long-running television series Gunsmoke and Dallas.
