매튜 박사는 발달 장애 아동을 위한 학교의 교장이지만 지나치게 엄격한 교육 방법을 고수하고 있다. 그는 학교의 새로운 음악 교사로 한센을 맞이하지만 그녀는 힘든 환경 속에서 적응에 어려움을 겪고 매튜 박사와도 크고 작은 갈등을 빚는다.

뉘른베르크 전범재판은 2차세계대전에서 승리한 연합국이 주체가 되어 패전국 독일이 제3제국의 이름으로 저지른 반인도적 행위에 대해 개인적 책임을 추궁한 역사적 사건이다. 2차대전을 일으킨 독일이 연합군의 힘에 밀려 참패하자 연합군은 전범들을 재판하게 된다. 이영화에서 다루는 피고는 전쟁당시 재판관들이다. 미국측 재판관 헤이우드는 독일군 고위층 부부가 살던 대 저택에 머물게 되는데 이집의 전 여주인을 알게 된다. 그리고 전쟁후 남편이 독일군이었다는 이유로 미국인에 살해당한 이 부인을 만나면서부터 독일군들이 인도주의적 정신보다는 나라에 대한 충성심을 더 강요받았다는 사실을 깨닫게 된다. 재판이 진행되는 동안 시종일관 침묵으로 일관하던 피고 언스트 야닝은 나중에야 자신과 동료들의 부정 부패를 고발하고 그것을 알고도 침묵했던 자신이 가장 사악한 사람이라며 자신의 잘못을 고백한다. 헤이우드는 전쟁이라는 상황과 비인도적인 판결을 내릴 수밖에 없었던 독일 재판관들의 입장을 고뇌하다 사형대신 종신형을 선고하는데...

폭풍우가 치는 어느 밤, 범죄자 호송차량이 산길을 달리던중 마주오던 차를 피하려다 길아래로 전복되고 만다. 경찰이 출동하고, 희생자를 옮기던 그들은 죄수 둘이 없어진 것을 알게 된다. 그들은 바로 조커 잭슨(토니 커티스 분)과 노아 컬렌(시드니 포이티어 분). 흑인과 백인으로 서로 증오하는 사이이기도한 이들은 두꺼운 사슬에 손목을 같이 묶인채로 도주를 시작한다. 사나운 사냥개와 맥스 경관의 수사팀이 그들을 바짝 뒤쫓아 오고, 외딴 마을에 도착한 두 사람은 사슬을 끊을만한 도구를 찾기위해 창고로 숨어들었다가 발각되고 만다. 그러나 마을의 한 노인의 도움으로 다시 도망치고, 모자 단 둘이서 사는 산속의 인가에 도착한다. 묶어있는 사슬을 끊고, 잠시 동안이지만 그곳에서 편안한 휴식을 맞게된 두 사람. 조커는 그곳에서 만난 여인과 짧은 연민에 빠지고, 결국 그녀의 곁에 남기로 한다. 혼자서 길을 떠나게 된 노아. 그러나 조커는 그녀와의 말다툼 끝에 흥분한 그녀의 어린 아들에 의해 총상을 입고, 노아를 찾아 다시 떠난다. 부상을 당한 노아와 만난 조커. 이제 사슬로 묶여있지 않지만 두 사람은 다시 하나가 되고, 서로에 대한 미움이 조금씩 우정으로 바뀌어 감을 알게 된다. 이제 두 사람의 마지막 희망은 달리는 기차에 몸을 싣는 것이다. 달리는 기차에 간신히 올라탄 노아, 그러나 부상당한 조커는 아슬아슬하게 올라타지 못하고, 결국 노아도 그와 함께 뛰어내리는데.

권투를 소재로 한 영화 중 제대로 만들어진 작품이다. 커크 더글라스의 아주 젊은 시절 모습을 볼 수 있다. 한 가난하고 야망있는 소년이 우연히 권투를 배우게 된다. 그는 타고난 재질로 경기에 쉽게 이기다가 나중에는 세계 챔피온이 된다. 그러나 그는 점점 세속에 물들어가는 인간이 되어 사랑하는 사람도 버리고, 친한 친구도 버려 육체적 정신적으로 병든 사람이 되어 버린다. 그리고는 결국 챔피온 벨트마져 빼앗기게 된다. 결국 자신이 좋아하던 사람들을 위해 열심히 혹독한 훈련을 겪어내고 챔피언을 재 탈환하는데 성공한다.

Arnold presents it at the recorders office. It appears authentic and he starts evicting ranchers from their land. But Russ knows something is wrong as one of Arnold's men was a man he fought with during the attack.

After some gun play with a posse, the James Gang head for Quinto in a section of land which is not a part of America. Anyone there is beyond the law so the town is populated with outlaws. Next to arrive is Sheriff Rowley, following his brother whom the Gang have brought in injured. Rowley has no authority and gets on well enough with the James boys but is soon involved in other local goings-on, including a move to vote for annexation with Oklahoma which would allow the law well and truly in.

Two industrialists disappear from an airplane while the plane is in the air. Also missing is $100,000. The Falcon investigates and discovers a plot against the government.

The Falcon is framed for the murder of a banker and the theft of war bonds. He makes his escape into the mountains where he hides out in a rustic lodge. From here he uncovers a phony war bond operation.

When his wife threatens to leave him because of his notoriously bad temper, Edgar promises that there will be no more tantrums.
