Shinichi Tominaga is a prosecutor, newly appointed to the special investigation division for the Tokyo district prosecutors' office. He is currently busy with a case involving suspicious donations to powerful politician Yohei Tachibana. Shinichi then receives a mysterious message from his friend Samon Kondo. His friend is in charge of space development at The The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The message talks about a scandal related to space development. Samon soon goes missing after sending the message. Shinichi begins to see a connection between the two cases.

Eiko Yagami (Ryoko Yonekura) is a "Marubo", a unit of Ueno Central Police Station's Organized Crime Division which deals directly with organized gangs to try and keep the peace. Two Osaka comedians, Makoto (Tomomitsu Yamaguchi) and Kinta (Go Morita), are riding bicycles in Tokyo when they're hit by a dump truck. They regain consciousness in 1945, but not of their own bodies. Somehow, their souls have been transported into the bodies of two tokkotai (special forces, or "kamikaze") pilots. Having grown up in a peaceful, carefree Japan, the two comedians experience severe disorientation at having to suddenly deal with the realities of war. They attempt to escape their squadron, knowing that Japan will eventually lose the war, but are nevertheless moved by the young men they meet, all of whom have very different opinions about their fate and the responsibilities that have been placed upon them.

보통 사람들의 생활 속 일부를 끄집어내어, 그 순간만을 드라마의 주인공으로 만든다..... 이것이 이 작품의 주제이다. 주인공은 가공의 애니메이션 제작 회사「스튜디오 기브리」에서 일하는 사람들 = 기브리즈의 멤버들. 「episode2」에서는 카레집의 주인과 기브리즈 3명의 뜨거운 대결「カレ－なる勝負(카레한(화려한) 승부)」등 총 4편의 짧은 이야기로 구성되어 있다. 감독은 모모세 요시유키. 그는 베테랑 애니메이터이며 타카하타 이사오(高畑勳)작품에서는 연출을, 「원령공주(もののけ姬)」에서는 CG를 담당하였다. 이번 작품에서는 그의 그런 다채로운 표현력이 충분히 발휘되고 있다. 또한 니시무라 마사히코(西村雅彦), 스즈키 쿄카(鈴木京香), 시노하라 토모에(篠原ともえ) 등이 이번 기브리즈의 사람들을 맡게 되면서 일본 영화사상 가장 사치스럽고 웃음과 애달픔이 넘치는 단편 영화가 탄생하게 되었다.

라디오 드라마 극본 공모에 당선된 미야코는 설레는 마음으로 자신의 대본이 녹음되는 모습을 보러 간다. 그러나 리허설까지 마치고 순조롭게 준비되던 방송은 왕년의 스타 성우 노리코(도다 게이코)의 고집으로 엉망진창이 되어 간다. 노다가 자신의 극중 이름을 난데없이 '메어리'로 바꿔달라고 요구하자, 남자 주인공도 생방송 중에 무단으로 이름을 바꾼다. 게다가 이상하게 변해가는 대본과는 달리 음향 효과가 전혀 준비되지 않아 스탭들은 좌충우돌하는데..

자유분방한 배우가 우연히 살인 사건을 목격하고, 검찰측의 증인이 되기로 한다. 사건의 당사자인 신흥 종교 집단이 그녀를 위험에 빠뜨릴지도 모른다는 판단에 경시청은 그녀를 보호해 줄 형사를 파견하기로 한다. 그러나 그녀는 사생활을 즐기기 위해 형사들을 따돌리는데... 헤이세이 4년(1992년), 민사개입폭력을 테마로 한 〈민법의 여자(ミンボーの女)〉의 개봉 중 이타미 감독은 폭력단원에게 습격을 받아 미야모토와 함께 신변보호 대상자가 되었다. 이 영화는 그 때의 경험을 바탕으로 살인사건을 우연히 목격한 여배우와 사건에 휘말리는 걸트 집단으로부터 그녀를 지키는 형사들의 고전기로서 각본을 집필했다. 말괄량이 여배우와 진지한 형사와의 티격태격하는 모습이 지금까지와는 다른 맛의 재미를 그리고 있으며 무엇보다도 미야모토의 격앙된 모습이 주목을 끈다.
