Mary Janice Rule (August 15, 1931 – October 17, 2003) was an American actress and psychotherapist, earning her PhD while still acting, then acting occasionally while working in her new profession.
She was pictured on the cover of Life magazine on January 8, 1951, as being someone to watch in the entertainment industry.
Rule had a brief engagement to Farley Granger in 1956. Rule was briefly married, during 1955, to television and film writer N. Richard Nash. Her second marriage was to television and film writer Robert Thom in 1956; they had one daughter, Kate, before divorcing in 1961. Her last marriage was to actor Ben Gazzara in 1961, having one daughter together before their divorce in 1982.
During the 1960s she became interested in psychoanalysis. She began her formal studies in 1973, specializing in treating her fellow actors, and received her PhD 10 years later from the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute in Los Angeles. She practiced in New York and Los Angeles, and continued to act occasionally until her death from a cerebral hemorrhage in 2003. She was cremated after her death. CLR

사실 길리안의 정체는 마녀이다. 길리안 뿐만 아니라 오빠인 니키와 숙모까지 모두 마법사인데 장난 삼아 쉐퍼드를 마법으로 유혹을 하려는 의식을 치르고 있는데 쉐퍼드가 그 장면을 목격하고 불이난 줄 알고 깜짝 놀라 길리안의 가게로 뛰어 든다. 별일 아니라며 그에게 권한 브랜디를 마시자 갑자기 길리안에게 매혹되어 키스를 하게 된다. 쉐퍼드는 마녀인 길리안의 마법을 걸려 잠시 놀리는 사랑놀이에 걸려든 것이다. 다음날 멀과 결혼해야 한다는 사실도 망각하고 길리안에게 빠져든다. 그러나 길리안은 어딘지 냉담하다. 마법사들은 같은 부류끼리만 어울리고 일반 보통 사람들과는 어울리지 않는다. 다만 마음에 드는 이성을 발견할 경우는 마법을 걸어서 그 사람의 마음을 빼앗고 재미삼아서 사귀며, 어떤 경우에도 눈물을 흘리는 법이 없고, 절대로 진짜 사랑에 빠져서는 안된다는 마법사들 만의 법이 있다. 그런데 길리안이 진짜 사랑을 하게 된 것이다. 길리안은 마법사의 룰을 어겼다. 눈물까지 흘렸다. 마법사 길리안이 쉐퍼드에게 건 마법의 힘이 아니라 한 여자로 쉐퍼트를 진심으로 사랑하게 되는, 마녀의 사랑이야기 이다.
