마흔 나이의 여자 레일라는 부모와 네 명의 형제를 돌보느라 여념이 없다. 집안의 남자들은 각자 먹고 사느라 열심이지만 그 누구도 가난에서 벗어나지 못한다. 형편이 좋지 못한 데도 아버지는 가문의 수장이 되는 꿈을 버리지 못한다. 일정한 재산을 갖다 바쳐야 수장이 될 수 있기에 아버지는 가족 몰래 감춰둔 금을 팔려고 한다. 레일라는 가족 모두가 먹고 살 수 있는 가게를 운영하는 꿈을 꾸지만 아들들의 생각은 다르다. 일확천금을 노리는 아들들 때문에 레일라의 꿈도, 아버지의 꿈도 산산조각 난다.

What is the relationship between the pair and why are they giving away money to the needy? Modest Reception has no easy answers nor pat resolutions - instead Haghighi takes the viewer on an intriguing ride into the dark recesses of the human spirit.
