Ever since, Uncle Miguel was ridiculed and eventually forgotten, but it is certain that his proclaim announced the separation of Mexican cinema and its audience. Discoveries may be found in the films made by Miguel, and bringing back to life these moving pictures might recover this history that was never told, a story that is almost lost and that Contreras Torres himself tried to pass on through his writings in The Black Book of Mexican Cinema.

생화학자 캠블 박사는 애스턴 재단의 후원으로 남미의 열대림에서 연구를 진행하고 있다. 그는 재단의 입김으로 자신의 연구가 방해받지 않기 위해 3년 동안 재단과의 연락을 두절하고 있었다. 어느날 캠블박사는 이 원주민 부족에서만 서식하는 약초를 발견하여 이를 이용해 인류를 암으로부터 해발시킬 수 있는 암치료제를 만들어 낸다. 하지만 처음으로 제조한 샘플만이 약효가 있고 그 나머지는 효과가 없다는 것을 알게 되고 추가적인 자원이 필요함을 깨닫게 된다. 이에 캠블박사는 3년간 연락을 끊었던 재단에 연구조수와 실험장비를 요청하게 된다. 이러한 사실을 모르는 재단은 고지식한 여성 생화학자 크레인박사를 파견하여 캠블박사의 연구 진행 결과를 검토하여 연구비 지원 여부를 결정짓도록 한다. 불쾌한 첫 대면 후 캠블박사와 크레인박사는 사사건건 부딪히게 되나 캠블박사가 암치료제를 만들어냈음을 확인한 크레인박사는 그의 연구에 적극 동참하게 되고, 이런 속에서 서로에 대한 불쾌한 감정은 서로에 대한 존경으로 변해가고 서서히 서로에 대한 사랑을 확인해 나간다. 둘은 문제 해결을 위해 최선을 다하나 이미 정부의 개발 계획에 따라 약초가 서식하는 지역에 도로가 나게 되고 이로 인해 그들의 실험은 시간이 촉박한데...

Margo is an ex-stripper who meets her long, lost father in Mexico. She looks after him in the waning days of his life, with the help of a traveling projectionist. The father passes away, telling of the loot from a botched bank robbery that he buried years earlier. The two get jobs in town as their relationship grows and they search for the treasure on the weekends. But while the treasure seems to bring them together, it also seems to be tearing them apart.
