첨단산업과 무역의 도시 홍콩. 그러나 뒷골목 청소년들의 삶은 이 도시의 화려함과는 거리가 멀다. 학업도 건너뛰고 직업도 없는 청소년 친. 어머니와 아들을 버리고 자신의 새 삶을 찾아 떠난지 오래인 아버지를 죽여버리고 싶은 적개심에 시달리지만 한편으론 여자친구 핑크를 지순하게 사랑하고, 약간 모자란 친구 실베스터를 챙겨주려 애쓰는 아이다. 병마에 시달리는 핑크를 보면 늘 안타깝고, 어린애들에게마저 놀림감이 되는 실베스터 때문에 또 가슴 아프다. 크기와 성능별로 다양한 칼 상점이 지척에 있고 총기류를 손에 넣기도 어렵지 않은 등 범죄의 유혹이 상존하는 도시 홍콩에서 친은 아버지에게 복수하고 한탕 멋지게 해낼 욕심이 들 때도 있지만, 위태위태하게 자신의 삶을 꾸려간다."다른 사람들 모두에게도 각자 자신만의 사연이 있는 거야." 여러 가지 종류의 가치파괴에 푹 젖은 이들 청소년들의 외로움과 좌절이 아름답고도 쓸쓸한 영상에 담겨 펼쳐진다. 시적인 형식미와 세심한 감정표현으로 올해 로카르노영화제에서 심사위원 특별상을 받았다.
