Embora a Batalha da Inglaterra tenha sido relativamente curta - 20 semanas - para os pilotos parecia não ter fim, a simples luta pela sobrevivência impelia os dois lados. A Batalha da Inglaterra não terminou simplesmente, cessou depois que o outono forçou Hitler a abandonar a operação Seelöwe (Leão Marinho), seu plano de invasão ao Reino Unido. Somente quando o inverno se aproximou, os ingleses se deram conta de que haviam sobrevivido à batalha. Com a queda da Noruega, Dinamarca e França, em junho de 1940, a Luftwaffe ganhou importantes bases aéreas para se lançar no maior combate aéreo da história. April, 1940.
