Niko, uma pequena rena, sonha em seguir os passos de seu pai, um membro da brigada voadora do Papai Noel. Para isso, ele treina todos os dias no vale calmo das renas, incentivado por sua mãe e seu melhor amigo, o esquilo voador Julius. Apesar de nunca ter visto seu pai, suas coreografias aéreas terminam sempre sem graça, virando piada para outras pequenas renas. Culpado de ter atraído uma matilha de lobos famintos para o grupo de renas, ele deixa a manada para procurar seu pai ao país remoto e misterioso do Papai Noel.

When 12-year-old Lauri tries too hard to get his older siblings’ attention he falls badly and loses his ability to walk. Now Lauri is stuck at home, lonelier than he ever was. Just then a helpful furry creature from another dimension appears and takes him on a fantasy adventure. In the other dimension Lauri trades his shadow for being able to walk again, but the shadow becomes a goofy, all-eating monster who follows Lauri back to his world. To beat the monster Lauri needs to team up with his siblings and give up his ability to walk. However, Lauri is now determined to learn to walk again and he has his siblings beside him - and that’s what really matters.

After a tearful goodbye, Niko leaves his family behind to fulfil his biggest dream and take his place next to his father on Santa’s Flying Forces. Stella, an unknown challenger, arrives to compete for Niko’s spot. Despite their competitiveness, the pair take a liking to each other, and Niko shows Stella where Santa’s sleigh is hidden. However, on the night before Christmas Eve, Stella steals it. Gutted by Stella’s betrayal and desperate to appease his angry father, Niko heads to the frozen North to recover the sleigh. He is accompanied by his old friends Wilma and Julius.
