Sinopsis
A Portuguese soldier, who got stranded from his team during the La Lys battle, struggles by himself through dozens of German offensives so he can guarantee the safety of his companions.

Es una adaptación de la novela homónima del escritor alemán Erich María Remarque. Su estreno provocó enfrentamientos entre nazis y comunistas.

The story takes place in 1917. Véronique is a young woman of 35 years, nurse at the military hospital of Besançon. On the 1st July 1916,the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers, part of 29th Division were tasked with capturing part of Beaumont Hamel. The 29th Division had recently arrived on the Western front from Gallipoli where the the Lancashire Fusiliers were famous for winning 6 Victoria Crosses before breakfast on Y Beach. On the 1st July at the sunken road they were once again carrying out an equally dangerous assault but this time despite doing their duty courageously there would be no VCs. this is the story of their attack.

The story takes place in the Belgrade mental hospital on Guberevac during the WWI, where notable Serbian writer Petar Kočić spends his last years of life. The safety of mental hospital in a war-torn Belgrade is disrupted when the deputy military governor in occupied Belgrade, Kosta Herman, finds out that Kočić is in the hospital and decides to settle old scores with him.
Telephone operator Peggy, puts on an act with Matt Wilde at a Bowery amateur night and is seen by Billy Laidlaw, who becomes convinced of her talents. Billy subsequently arranges for the Broadway debut of the act and falls in love with Peggy, who wholeheartedly returns his affection. When the World War breaks out, Billy remains unconcerned until his younger brother is killed in action. Billy then immediately enlists and is sent to France; Peggy joins the Red Cross to be with him, and Grace Laidlaw, Billy's wife, also goes to France, working with the Y. M. C. A. Billy is assigned to destroy an ammunition dump, and Peggy learns, after he has left on the mission, that he has been recalled.
