워 오브 솔다도 (2018)

1차 대전이 진행되고 있을 무렵, 폴과 알버트, 프란츠, 뮬러, 벤은 전쟁에 참전해 조국을 구하라는 한 교수의 연설에 감동을 받아 혹독한 훈련을 마친 후 전선으로 향한다. 하지만 전선에 배치되자마자 벤은 전사하고, 프란츠는 부상으로 다리를 절단하게 된다. 정신을 차린 후, 평생 불구로 살아야한다는 사실에 이성을 잃고 날뛰던 프란츠도 병원에서 사망한다. 한편, 뮬러는 프란츠가 아끼던 군화를 받게 되자 아주 기뻐하지만 그 역시 전사한다. 결국 폴은 전쟁터에서 전쟁의 참상에 대해 서서히 깨닫기 시작하는데...

고아 유리 지바고(오마 샤리프)는 그로메코가(家)에 입양되어 성장한다. 그는 크렘린 궁성 앞에서 노동자와 학생들이 기마병에게 살해되는 것을 보고 큰 충격을 받고, 의학을 공부해 빈곤한 사람들을 돕고자 꿈꾼다. 열심히 의학실습에 몰두하던 중 운명의 여인 라라(줄리 크리스티)와 마주친다. 1차대전에 군의관으로 참전한 그는 우연히 종군간호부로 변신한 라라와 재회한다. 1917년 혁명정부가 수립된 러시아에서 유리는 숙청을 피해 우랄 산맥의 오지로 숨어든다. 궁핍하지만 평화가 감도는 전원 생활을 보내던 그는 우연히 그 근처로 이주해온 라라와 다시 운명적으로 만나게 되는데...

세계대전에서 패배한 토매니아국에 힌켈이라는 독재자가 나타나 악명을 떨친다. 한편, 힌켈과 닮은꼴 외모의 이발사 찰리는 국가의 유태인 탄압정책으로 인해 곤경에 처하지만 병사로 참전했던 전쟁에서 우연히 구해줬던 슐츠 장교의 도움을 받아 위기를 모면한다. 독재자 힌켈의 악행은 갈수록 도를 더해가고, 찰리는 유태인 수용소에 끌려가게 되지만 기지를 부려 탈옥에 성공한다. 하지만 이발사와 똑같은 얼굴을 한 힌켈이 탈옥범으로 오해 받아 감옥에 잡혀 들어가게 되는데…

총사령관 브롤라드는 프랑스군의 용맹함을 보여주고 싶은 열망에 독일군이 점령하고 있는 '개미고지'를 탈환하라고 명령한다. 승진을 바라고 있던 사단장 미로는 그것이 자살행위라는 것을 알면서도 자신의 명예를 위해 부하들을 희생시키기로 한다. 결국 군대의 명령 계통에 충실한 닥스 대령이 부대원들을 이끌고 작전을 수행하지만 무모한 작전은 사병들의 끔찍한 희생을 부른다. 동료들의 끔찍한 죽음을 목격한 군인들은 참호를 떠나 공격하기를 거부하기에 이른다. 이에 화가 난 미로 장군은 포병대에게 자신의 부하들이 있는 참호를 향해 대포를 발사하라고 명령한다. 그렇게 작전은 실패로 끝나고, 공격 계획이 잘못된 것이었다는 사실을 인정할 수 없는 미로장군은 작전의 실패가 부하들의 비겁함 때문이라고 스스로를 합리화하고 사단에서 병사 한명씩을 무단으로 색출해, 실패한 임무에 대한 희생양으로 이들을 군법회의에 회부해 기자들이 지켜보는 가운데 처형하려 한다. 닥스 대령은 미로장군의 처사에 분노를 느끼며 병사들을 위해 필사적인 변호를 펼치는데...

On the 1st July 1916,the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers, part of 29th Division were tasked with capturing part of Beaumont Hamel. The 29th Division had recently arrived on the Western front from Gallipoli where the the Lancashire Fusiliers were famous for winning 6 Victoria Crosses before breakfast on Y Beach. It consists of an interview by the journalist Björn Cederberg with the German writer, philosopher and war veteran Ernst Jünger (1895-1998). Jünger talks about his life, his authorship, his interests and ideas. The actor Mikael Persbrandt reads passages from some of Jünger's works, such as Storm of Steel, The Worker, On the Marble Cliffs and The Glass Bees.

The story takes place in the Belgrade mental hospital on Guberevac during the WWI, where notable Serbian writer Petar Kočić spends his last years of life. The safety of mental hospital in a war-torn Belgrade is disrupted when the deputy military governor in occupied Belgrade, Kosta Herman, finds out that Kočić is in the hospital and decides to settle old scores with him.

Telephone operator Peggy, puts on an act with Matt Wilde at a Bowery amateur night and is seen by Billy Laidlaw, who becomes convinced of her talents. Billy subsequently arranges for the Broadway debut of the act and falls in love with Peggy, who wholeheartedly returns his affection. When the World War breaks out, Billy remains unconcerned until his younger brother is killed in action. Billy then immediately enlists and is sent to France; Peggy joins the Red Cross to be with him, and Grace Laidlaw, Billy's wife, also goes to France, working with the Y. M. C. A. Billy is assigned to destroy an ammunition dump, and Peggy learns, after he has left on the mission, that he has been recalled.
