Sinopsis
St. John’s Night is a traditional midsummer Latvian celebration where family and friends get together to build bonfires, drink and have a good time. According to a legend, on this night lovers and those who wish to fall in love can search the woods for the "magic fern".
Una pareja estadounidense que no está pasando por su mejor momento acude con unos amigos a un festival de verano que se celebra cada noventa años en una aldea remota de Suecia. Lo que comienza como unas vacaciones de ensueño en un lugar en el que el sol no se pone nunca, poco a poco se convierte en una oscura pesadilla cuando los misteriosos aldeanos les invitan a participar en sus perturbadoras actividades festivas.
Monika trabaja en un mercado de verduras. Harry, un joven de 19 años, vive al lado. Un día van al cine y pasan la noche juntos en la barca del padre de Harry. Al día siguiente Harry es despedido. Los dos deciden dejar Estocolmo. Al principio las cosas son idílicas: toman el sol desnudos, beben, van a bailar pero Monika se queda embarazada. Se quedan sin comida y empiezan a robar en cabañas cercanas. Monika es arrestada pero logra escapar. Y ambos deciden volver a la ciudad.

Jon, a middle-aged professor is going to get married tomorrow, for the second time, to one of his ex-students half his age. But it's not all roses. First, there's his cranky mother-in-law-to-be who violently opposes the marriage and who demands repayment of Jon's loan before the wedding night. Second, his plans to build a golf course on the little island of Flatey where they live aren't going at all to plan. Third, his extremely drunk best man is on the loose without any shoes and lastly, the continual presence of his emotional first wife is haunting his every move.
