昭和49年の東京・池袋。守一が暮らす家の庭には草木が生い茂り、たくさんの虫や猫が住み着いていた。それら生き物たちは守一の描く絵のモデルであり、じっと庭の生命たちを眺めることが、30年以上にわたる守一の日課であった。そして妻の秀子との2人で暮らす家には毎日のように来客が訪れる。守一を撮影することに情熱を傾ける若い写真家、守一に看板を描いてもらいたい温泉旅館の主人、隣に暮らす佐伯さん夫婦、近所の人々、さらには得体の知れない男まで。老若男女が集う熊谷家の茶の間はその日も、いつものようににぎやかだった。＜山崎努と樹木希林という、ともに日本映画界を代表するベテランが初共演を果たし、伝説の画家・熊谷守一夫妻を演じた人間ドラマ。30年間もの間、ほとんど家の外へ出ることなく庭の生命を見つめ描き続けたという熊谷守一＝モリのエピソードをベースに、晩年のある1日を沖田修一監督がフィクションとしてユーモラスに描いていく。＞
