シノプシス
「アート・アニメーションの神様」として世界中のアニメーターたちから尊敬を集めるロシア人アニメーター、ユーリー・ノルシュテイン監督が、前作「キツネとウサギ」に続いてウラジーミル・ダーリ原案のロシア民話を基に描いた短編アニメ。脚本に「チェブラーシカ」で広く知られるロマン・カチャーノフ。互いに惹かれ合っているアオサギとツルが、結婚の申し込みをしあいながらもすれ違い、意地を張り合う姿を描いた。日本の浮世絵や水墨画を参考に、複数の背景を重ねる手法で制作された幻想的な世界が繰り広げられる。
1607年、英国軍人ジョン・スミスはラトクリフ総督率いる開拓団に参加し、新大陸アメリカのヴァージニア植民地へ旅立つ。一方、そこに昔から暮らす先住民パウアタン族の首長の娘ポカホンタスは不思議な夢と精霊グランドマザー・ウイローに導かれ、開拓団の船を発見する。ポカホンタスは真っ先に上陸してきたスミスと運命的に出会い、2人は言葉が通じないながらも心を通わすように。だが先住民と開拓団は対立を深めていく。
