마제스틱 호텔의 지배인 로버트 그랜트(제이슨 알렉산더 분)는 수많은 호텔 손님과 직원들, 말썽꾸러기 두 아들, 그리고 깐깐하기로 유명한 상사 두브로 여사(페이 더나웨이 분)까지 능숙하게 다뤄왔고, 이제까지 그가 해결 못한 사건은 없었다. 오랑우탄 던스턴이 호텔에 나타나기전까지는 말이다. 던스턴은 교활한 보석 도둑 러트리지(루퍼트 에버렛 분)에게 잡혀 부하 노릇을 하고 있는 오랑우탄이다. 악당 러트리지에게 괴로움을 당하고 있는 던스턴을 본 지배인의 개구장이 막내 아들 카일(에릭 로이드 분)은 불쌍한 던스턴을 돕기로 결심한다. 던스턴이 러트리지에게서 달아나면서부터 오랑우탄과 인디애나 존스를 추적하기 위한 한바탕 대소동이 대리석과 마호가니로 장식된 최고급 호텔에서 벌어진다. 던스턴 때문에 별 5개의 특급 호텔이 급기야 서커스장으로 변한 것이다. 호텔 직원과 손님들은 카일과 던스턴의 도망 작전에 계속 골탕을 먹게 되고, 여기에 던스턴을 잡으려고 동물 보호소에서 출동한 라팔지(폴 레벤스 분)까지 합세해 좌충우돌 오랑우탄 던스턴을 잡기위한 대소동이 일어나는데...
