LA에 사는 해리스(Harris K. Telemacher : 스티브 마틴 분)는 TV 기상 예보 담당자로 조금 웃기는데가 있지만 고속도로의 신비한 전광판이 그를 도와주는 것을 빼고는 그런대로 평범한 남자이며 여자친구 트루디(Trudi : 마리루 헨너 분)와 살고 있다. 해리스는 영국 저널리스트 사라(Sara McDowel : 빅토리아 테넌트 분)를 알게 되는데 그녀에게는 전남편 죠가 있고 해리스는 옷가게 점원 샌디(SanDeE : 사라 제시카 파커 분)를 사귀지만 서로에게 호감을 느낀다. 그러던 중, 투르디와 자기 대리인 프랭크(Frank Swan : 케빈 폴락 분)의 관계를 알게 되고 직장에서도 해고되자 해리스는 자기 인생의 여러가지 문제점에 직면하게 되는데...

USB 방송국의 뉴스 앵커 하워드 빌은 과장된 풍자와 독설로 한때 높은 시청률로 인기를 누렸던 인물이다. 그러나 점차 시청률이 떨어지게 되자 방송국의 사장은 빌을 해고하려고 한다. 빌은 그의 직속 상사와 함께 술을 마시는 자리에서 방송 중 자살에 대한 농담을 나누고는 고별 방송에서 시청률 저하 때문에 자살하겠다고 한다. 빌은 방송에서 교체되었지만 가까스로 고별방송을 할 수 있도록 허락받고는 시청자들에게 자신의 처지를 솔직히 털어놓는다. 그의 솔직함에 시청자들이 반응을 보이기 시작하며 시청률이 급등하자 프로그램 기획자인 다이아나는 빌의 상품성을 꿰뚫고는 사장에게 빌을 해고해서는 안된다고 설득한다. 빌은 다시 방송을 하게 되지만 직업적 스트레스로 인한 정신병이 점점 심해져간다.

홈쇼핑 채널에 근무하는 리키(제프 골드브럼)는 몇 달간 세일즈 실적이 저조하자 사장으로부터 경고를 받는다. 생활의 낙이 없던 그에게 신입으로 들어온 방송 분석가 케이트(켈리 프레스톤)가 눈에 들어온다. 그러나 리키는 케이트로부터 무능력한 속물취급만 당할 뿐이다. 그러던 어느 날 두 사람은 세일즈 방안을 논의하며 고속도로를 달리던 중, 자동차 고장을 계기로 'G'(에디 머피)라는 힌두교 전도사를 만난다. 리키는 G의 카리스마와 사람의 호감을 끄는 능력을 상품광고에 활용할 방안을 세운다. 그의 계산은 적중하고 회사의 매출실적은 뛰어오른다. 하지만 G가 리키에게 가져온 진정한 행운은 사랑이었다. G의 순수함에 영향을 받은 리키와 케이트 사이에 미묘한 감정이 싹트기 시작한 것이다.

경이적인 시청률을 기록하며 미국 전역에서 인기를 끌고 있는 TV 퀴즈쇼 프로그램 ‘트웬티 원(Twenty One)’. 이 프로그램이 방송되는 시간에는 남녀노소 할 것 없이 모두 TV앞에 모여든다. 하지만 프로그램의 최고액 우승자인 허비(존 터투로)의 인기도 다한 듯 시청률은 계속 정체되어 있다. 허비의 모자라는 듯한 표정과 식상한 말투에 싫증난 방송 관계자들은 떄마침 찾아온 대학교수이자 학자 집안 출신인 찰스(랄프 파인즈)를 다음 후보로 결정한다. 마침내 찰스가 새 챔피언으로 떠오르면서 정체되어 있던 시청률은 급격히 뛰어오르고, 찰스 또한 거액의 상금과 세간의 시선을 한 몸에 받으며 ‘타임’과 ‘라이프’지 표지모델로까지 선정된다. 한편 졸지에 쫓겨난 허비는 이 프로그램이 조작된 것이라며 공개적으로 비방하고 나서는데, 퀴즈쇼 조작극에 대한 수사는 법원의 수사결과 공개 금지 명령과 함께 종결된다. 하버드 법대 출신의 총명한 변호사 구드윈(로브 모로우)은 이에 의혹을 품고 국회 법사위 소위원회의 명령에 따라 수사에 착수하게 되는데...

Etoile-directly referring to Cocteau, Lethem shows an adolescent sucking a starfish and then giving birth to a smaller starfish. A statement of inadequacy. To give birth involves an emasculation and a loss of vitality. 3.) Corps-two images of a man on a couch groping for each other, watched by a mysterious peeping Tom. As the two superimposed images come together, the heavy breathing subsides…the statement that the birth of desire is a self – realisation. 4.) Hymen – The decaying body of a girl is shot through green filters, and the final image reveals her vagina crawling with maggots and overlain with a crucifix. A representation of Catholicism preventing the free expression of desire.

De Düva is a 1968 Oscar-nominated American short film that parodies the films of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, including Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal. The film borrows heavily from the plot lines of some of Bergman's most famous films. The dialogue, seemingly in Swedish, is actually a Swedish-accented fictional language based on English, German, Latin, and Swedish, with most nouns ending in "ska." The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.
