Losers and Winners (2007)

What does being a Jew mean nowadays? Emanuel Goldfarb, a Jewish journalist, is asked by the Director of a Jewish community in Germany, to respond to an invitation by a professor to tell his pupils about his life as a Jew living in Germany. This conversation, performed by Goldfarb and the Director of the community, is the only scene of Oliver Hirschbiegel's film « Ein ganz gewohnlicher Jude » presented at the Film and Television Festival of Genève, which was shot outdoors and it's the only moment where something apparently happens.

Stevie, a precocious 14-year-old girl must cope with the instabilities of her immoderate parents. When they decide to move to a small provincial town in Germany, Stevie attempts to slip into a normal life. Whilst her parents playfully escape their responsibilities, Stevie tries to make a good impression in town, spreading stories of grandeur and claiming to be the daughter of a diplomat. She makes progress. Yet the good weather doesn’t last and before long, she discovers that her parents have once more resorted to illegal means, as a way of supporting their leisurely lifestyle. As friends and hangers-on of her parents fill their new home, the chaos continually mounts. It is in this atmosphere of physical and emotional destruction, that Stevie must now start to define herself and perhaps even break free.

파리의 복잡한 거리. 어떤 이가 구걸하는 여인에게 구겨진 종이조각을 던진다. 이것은 한순간에 서로 다른 삶은 살고 있는 여러 명의 사람들을 연결해 주는 끈이 된다. 젊은 여배우 안느는 영화계 데뷔를 앞두고 있고, 그녀의 남자친구 조르쥬는 전쟁사진가로 항상 외국을 돌아다닌다. 조르쥬의 아버지는 농부이고, 동생 장은 농장을 물려 받을 생각은 전혀 없다. 아마두는 말하지도, 듣지도 못하는 아이들은 교육하는 학교의 음악 선생으로 청각장애자인 여동생으로 인해 이 직업을 택하게 된다. 아마두의 아버지는 아프리카 출신으로 택시를 운전하고 있다. 구걸해서 번 돈을 고향으로 부치는 루마니아 출신의 마리아는 프랑스에서 다시 비참한 생활을 시작하기 전에 가족과 함께 시간을 보내기 위해 고향으로 떠난다.
