리드싱어 체즈(Chazz: 브렌단 프레이저 분), 베이스 연주자 렉스(Rex: 스티브 부세미 분), 드러머 핍(Pip: 아담 샌들러 분)은 록스타를 꿈꾸는 무명 밴드 그룹이다. 평소부터 라이브 공연을 해보는 것과 방송에 출연하는 것이 소원인 이들은 자신들이 음악을 녹음한 데모 테입을 가지고 레코드 회사를 찾아가지만 갈때마다 문전박대를 당하며 쫓겨난다. 그러던 어느날 자신들보다도 실력이 형편없는 밴드그룹이 방송국의 전파를 파고 디스크를 내게 되자, 화가난 체즈 일행은 몰래 방송국으로 숨어 들어갈 계획을 세운다. 경비의 눈을 피해 방송실에 이들이 나타났을 때도 여전히 냉담하기만한 직원들의 태도, 이에 열받은 렉스가 후추가 가득 든 장난감 총으로 이들을 위협해서 강제로 그들의 데모테잎을 틀게 한다. 그러다 실수로 담배불에 테잎이 타버리자 당황한 이들은 방송국 안에 남아 있는 모든 직원들을 한곳에 몰아 넣고 주변 상황을 살핀다. 그러나 밖에는 이미 경찰 특수기동대가 깔려 있고 이들을 보려고 모여든 젊은이들이 방송국의 앞마당을 점령해 있는 등 시끌법썩한 상황이다 그 속에서 체즈 일행은 내친김에 자신들의 노래를 세상에 알리기 위해 진짜 라이브 쇼를 벌이려 하는데...
