Japan in 1910, industrialization is unstoppable and devastating entire areas in the name of progress. In 1961, a spectacular criminal case shocks Japan: at what became known as the “Nabari Poison Wine” incident, five people lose their lives at a village social gathering. One of the attendants, Masaru OKUNISHI, is made out as the main suspect. Rumor has it that he wanted to kill his wife and his lover in order to end his extra-marital affair. After being questioned by the police for days, he signs a confession, only to withdraw it soon afterwards. Nonetheless, he is sentenced to death and all pleas for a retrial are denied.

Gradually, his past memories start to come back to him, and Choukichi heads towards the world of insanity.

Masaru Okunishi is a prisoner who has been on death-row for over 40 years. In 1961, 5 women died from drinking poisoned wine in a small village gathering in Nabari City in Mie Prefecture. After his arrest, he appealed his innocence on the grounds that the police coerced his confession. He was found not guilty in the first trial. However, it was overturned and he received a death sentence in the second trial, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1972. Since then, Okunishi has continuously appealed for retrial, fighting against the horror of capital punishment. This TV dramatization of the Nabari Poisoned Wine Case depicts Okunishi in an isolated cell, his mother’s unwavering belief in his innocence, and the effort of people who have rallied to Okunishi’s defense.

아사히중앙은행(ACB) 본점은 마루노증권의 이익공여사건으로 거물 총회꾼(소수의 주를 소유하고 주주총회에 참석하여 말썽을 부리거나 금품을 받고 의사진행에 협력 또는 방해하는 것을 업으로 삼는 사람의 속칭)이 체포되면서 300억엔이라는 ACB의 부정융자 의혹이 드러나고 마는 큰 사건에 휩싸인다. 그러나, 회장을 비롯한 임원진들은 위기감을 느끼지 못하고 있다. 그런 상부의 자세에 반기를 들고 은행의 재건을 위해 나선 것은 중견간부 4인. 이윽고 도쿄지검의 특수부에 의한 은행 본점의 강제 수사가 시작되고, 임원들은 책임을 회피하려고만 한다. 중견간부 4인은 이러한 태도에 격분하고 본격적인 투쟁에 들어간다. 부패한 ACB를 재건하기 위해선 임원들의 총사퇴 뿐이 없다고 생각한 기타노 기획본부 부부장은 TV아나운서의 힘을 빌려 일을 추진한다. 결국 계속되는 임원들의 체포 속에 은행의 두뇌부는 손을 들게 되나, 마지막으로 남은 사사키 상담역의 처리가 최대 문제로 남는다. 홀로 사사키 상담역과 결전을 벌이러 가는 다카노. 그러나 실은 사사키 상담역은 다카키의 장인이었고, 다카노는 회사개혁과 가정이라는 양극의 상황에 봉착, 고뇌에 휩싸인다.

Ryunosuke Tsukue

전쟁에 패전한 일본의 병사들은 곳곳으로 퍼지고. 카지는 한 무리의 병사들을 이끌고 고향으로 돌아가는 길에 나선다. 집으로 향하는 도중 난민들 무리를 만나며 그들까지 자신의 무리에 받아들여서 그들을 이끌고 목적지까지 향한다. 그들은 여행 중 여기저기에 있는 중국군과 소련군들의 공격을 받지만 카지는 자신을 집에서 기다리고 있는 사랑스러운 부인 미치코를 생각하면 힘든 걸음을 계속해서 앞으로 나아간다. 하지만 결국 카지의 무리는 소련군에 잡혀 포로가 되고 카지의 리더십을 통하여 그곳에서의 생활을 견뎌내지만 한 때 일본군이었지만 소련 포로수용소 안에서 포로관리인이 된 일본군들의 부조리를 참지 못하고, 자신의 동료를 죽인 포로관리인을 살인한 카지는 소련 포로수용소를 탈출하여 자신의 고향으로 향한다.

일반 병사가 된 카지는 군대의 부조리를 보지 못하고 매번 부조리한 상황에 반항하게 된다. 하지만 자신과 같이 인간적인 면을 가지고 있는 선임 신조에게 끌려 그의 사상인 공산주의에 조금씩 끌리게 된다. 그러다 부상을 당한 카지는 병원에 입원을 하게 되고 그곳에서 자신과 같은 뜻을 가진 단게를 만나고 마음의 위안을 가지고 그곳에서 퇴원을 하며 자신의 고향 친구인 카게야마가 자신의 부대의 소대장으로 온다. 친구 카케야마의 도움을 통하여 신병들을 자신의 방법대로 인간적인 방법을 통하여 훈련시키게 되지만 이것을 탐탁치 않게 생각했던 선임들에게 매번 당하고 지내다 전쟁이 시작되고 카지는 전쟁에 휘말리게 되고 일본군은 대패를 하게 된다.
Adapted by Yasumi Toshio and directed by Toyoda Shiro, this is a literary work based on a full-length novel of the same name published by Shiga Naoya of the Shirakaba School.
Kimura
고미술 감정가인 겐모치는 부인 이쿠코에게는 비밀로 정력 증진을 위해 주사를 맞으러 병원에 다니며, 병원 인턴인 기무라를 딸 도시코의 남편으로 생각하고 있다. 병원에 온 이쿠코는 남편의 통원 사실을 알지만 아무 말도 하지 않는다. 부부는 상대가 훔쳐 보고 있다는 것을 서로 알면서 각자 일기를 쓰고 있다. 기무라가 집을 방문하여 같이 술을 마신 날 밤 목욕탕에서 잠이 들어버린 이쿠코의 나신을 겐모치는 기무라에게 맡긴다. 이렇게 세 명의 기묘한 관계가 시작되고 질투로 부부 관계를 다시 일으키려 하는 겐모치는 고혈압으로 위험한 상태가 된다. 한 편으로 기무라와 도시코는 이미 관계를 맺고 있으며 이쿠코와 기무라와의 관계를 의심하면서도 기무라와 약혼을 한다. 결국 겐모치가 죽고 장례식이 끝나 재산 정리가 되자 이 집의 재산으로 개업을 생각했던 기무라는 실망하여 관계를 끊고 싶다고 생각한다. 도시코는 엄마의 홍차에 농약을 넣지만 노파의 잘못으로 약은 바뀌어져 3명의 셀러드에 뿌려져 있다.

세계 2차 대전 당시 대기업에서 종사하고 있는 카지는 군대에 집영되는 대신 광산에 가서 군대에 납품할 광물들을 생산하는 광산의 간부로 발탁된다. 군대 입대 때문에 하지 않으려고 했던 결혼을 하고 부인인 미치코와 함께 광산으로 간다. 양심으로 똘똘 뭉친 카지는 그곳에서 일본인에게 당하는 중국 노동자들의 생활개선과 동시에 포로로 잡혀온 중국 노동자들의 인간적인 생활을 찾아주기 위해 노력하지만 일본군과 광산의 다른 간부들과의 갈등으로 이어지고 결국 일본군에 눈 밖에 나서 군대에 입영되게 된다.
A young, struggling couple are making every sacrifice so they will one day in the not-too-distant-future, have enough money to get married. As they have agreed on this procedure, it comes as a shock to the young woman to find out from her husband-to-be that he just loaned all the money they had saved to a friend. She is understandably miffed, and a big disagreement results. But after some time goes by, she discovers why the friend needed the money so badly, and the couple are back on solid footing again.

일본의 전국시대. 주민들은 황폐한 땅에서 어렵게 수확한 식량으로 한해 한해를 넘기는 빈촌에 살고 있다. 이 빈촌엔 보리 수확이 끝날 무렵이면 어김없이 산적들이 찾아와 모든 식량을 모조리 약탈해 간다. 싸워도 애원해도 소용이 없었다. 가만히 있을 수만은 없던 촌장의 결단으로 사무라이들을 모집하는데, 이들은 풍부한 전쟁 경험을 가진 시마다 칸베에를 포함한 7명이었다. 시마다의 지휘하에 마을은 방위태세를 갖추고 전투훈련도 시작한다. 이윽고 산적들의 공격이 시작되어 치열한 사투가 벌어진다.
