카사노바 후작은 과거 화려한 여성편력으로 유명했던 인물이다. 스위스에 사는 그는 노쇠했음에도 불구하고 여전히 삶을 만끽한다. 어느 날 충실한 종복과 함께 루마니아의 작은 농촌마을에 도착한 후 여자들을 탐한다. 그곳에는 드라큘라 백작이 살고 있다.
카사노바와 드라큘라가 한 영화에 등장한다고 해서 할리우드식 장르 혼성을 기대해서는 안 된다. 이 영화는 그보다 훨씬 독창적이고 섬세하며 시적이다. 퇴락한 카사노바가 인간의 식욕과 성욕을 극히 추잡스럽게 대변한다면 흡혈 후 괴성을 지르는 드라큘라는 하인의 말마따나 우울증에 시달리는 듯하다. 이 둘은 가슴 깊이 채워지지 않는 갈증과 차가운 고독을 공유한다. 그래서 대부분 밤에 촛불조명하에 촬영된 어두운 샷들은 그들의 처지와 하나가 된다. 아름답고 정교한 미장센도 돋보이지만 섬세한 사운드 연출 또한 이 영화를 형언할 수 없는 시정으로 가득 채운다. 프롤로그의 낭만적이고 에로스적인 음악과 마음을 뒤흔드는 바람소리가 그렇다. 올해 로카르노영화제 황금표범상 수상작으로, 스페인의 독창적인 작가 알베르 세라의 일곱 번째 장편이다. 중세기 귀족으로 그 동료들에 의해 악마, 궁인, 정치가, 연금술사, 기사라는 뜻으로 불리웠으며 강한 힘의 소유자로 신체적인 죽음을 초월할 수 있다고 알려진 드라큐라는 헝가리에 있는 본인의 성을 매입하러 온 젊은 영국인 변호사를 감금시키고 그 약혼녀 친구인 루시 집 근처에 저택을 구입, 밤에 루시가 밖으로 나오도록 하여 흡혈귀로 만든다. 루시의 약혼자 아더는 의사 헬싱으로부터 흡혈귀에 대해 설명을 듣는다. 헬싱은 흡혈귀가 되어 아더를 유인하는 루시를 쫓아 죽이고, 드라큐라는 이의 복수로 변호사 애인 미나를 흡혈귀로 만들고 도망친다.

Curd Jurgens as the betrayed husband is incredibly expressive and believable; Rosabla Neri, as the philandering Alexa, delivers her usual thoughtful performance and, in doing so, makes her potentially cardboard cut-out character multi-dimensional, and Juan Luis Galiardo, as Alexa'a heartthrob Pierre, also cares enough about his craft that he avoids the trappings of a potentially stereotypical character and, like Neri, makes him real and full of depth

다리가 예쁜 여자들을 골라 강간한 후 다리를 절단하여 살해한 연쇄살인사건이 발생한다. 홍콩의 경찰들은 특별수사본부를 설치하고 켄 경위가 이 전담반을 맡는다. 한편, 켄의 약혼녀이자 유능한 여자경찰인 아설이 갱단의 조직원을 후송하는 도중, 그의 입을 막으려는 갱 조직원이 호송차를 습격한다. 차량 충돌과 함께 시작된 총격전으로 경찰과 갱단의 유혈사태가 발생하고 아설이 부상을 당한다. 이때 우연히 이 근처를 지나다 이 광경을 목격한 연쇄유괴살인범 로이는 아설의 각선미를 주목하고, 총격전에도 아랑곳하지 않고 스커트 아래 그녀의 다리를 비디오로 녹화한다. 이때부터 로이는 아설의 집에 몰래 침입하여 그녀의 사생활을 캐내고, 그녀를 자신의 것으로 만들려는 작업을 시작한다. 또한 대담하게도 경찰서로 아설을 찾아가 그녀에게 자신이 찍은 비디오 테이프와 선물을 주고 달아나 버린다. 수상한 낌새를 채고 그를 추적하지만 놓치고 마는 켄과 아설. 그러나 한번 먹이를 노린 그가 아설을 놓아줄 리 만무한 일. 아설의 집에 로이는 계속 기거하며 그녀를 납치할 기회를 노린다. 그러던 중 아설의 동생을 보게 된 로이는 때마침 집으로 오던 켄과 아설의 눈 앞에서 아설의 여동생을 납치하며, 아설에게 그녀를 찾기 위해 악속 장소로 올 것을 명령한다. 아설이 로이를 찾는 동안에도 시내 밤거리의 봉고 안에서 아설의 여동생을 겁탈하는 로이. 마침내 로이를 만나러 찾아오지만 그의 계략에 말려들어 그녀마저 그의 먹이가 되어버린다. 동생의 죽음을 통해 간신히 로이로부터 탈출하는 아설. 그러나 아설을 찾기 위해 로이의 더욱 잔혹하고 엽기적인 토막 살인을 감행하며. 로이에게 복수를 하려던 아설은 로이의 계략에 말려들어 캔마저 살해하게 되는데...
