Lt Commander Badger, RN: an exceptionally likeable fellow, the Artful Bodger has one besetting sin a shining honesty which compels him to say the right thing at entirely the wrong time! After two sailors are conned into buying a lame race-horse, they go ashore to sort out the problem, but when they realize that the horse is one of a pair of identical twins, their plan for revenge becomes more complicated.

American naval forces are using a port in Iceland as a base for anti-submarine patrols to protect North Atlantic convoys from Nazi subs. The Nazis send undercover agents into the port in a scheme to blow up the entrance to the harbor and keep the patrols blocked in. The officers in charge of the patrols have to find the spies and stop them before they achieve their objective.

Singer Joan Whitney, called the "Sweetheart of the Navy" by sailors, is struggling to re-open the Snug Harbor Cafe. After her partner, Richard, skips town with the money owed to their creditors, the club opens unceremoniously. Two of Joan's sailor friends, Andy and Pete, offer to help her raise money for the club by staging a fight with Bumper Martin, boxing champion of the fleet. At Andy's request, straight-laced yeoman Eddie Harris replaces him in the upcoming fight. Andy and Pete then intimidate or coerce the sailors into betting on the fight, promising to give Joan the profits. Navy Commander Lodge, who is grooming Eddie for the Naval Academy at Annapolis, is against the fight, however, and Joan decides to "vamp" Eddie to make him fight.

On leave in Italy, Lt. Tommy Knowlton falls in love with Jean Standish, who's not only married, but is the daughter of his submarine's commander. Friction between the two officers becomes intolerable once at sea and after Commander Toler is forced to abandon Tommy's best friend topside while the sub dives to escape enemy planes, Tommy is no longer able to contain his anger.

When his son arrives in Hollywood on shore leave with his buddies, Pop enlists the aid of the studio's dizzy switchboard operator in pulling off the charade. Things get more complicated when Pop agrees to put together a show for the Navy starring Paramount's top contract players.

2011년 12월 23일 일본에서 개봉된 화제작이다. 야마모토 제독이 등장하는 태평양 전쟁사를 영화화한 것이 이번이 처음은 아니지만, 전작들이 미니어쳐를 이용한 특촬 기술을 쓴 것에 비하여 본작에서는 현재 일본 영화계가 가진 CG 기술을 총동원해 만들어졌다고 하며, 극우 영화 "남자들의 야마토(男たちの大和 : 2005)" 보다 진일보된 전투 씬들을 보여주고 있다. 이 영화는 일본인의 시각에서 쓴 근대 역사서 "쇼와사(昭和史)"를 집필했던 한도 카츠토시(半藤一利)의 감수에 의해 당시 일본 해군 그 자체라고 할 연합함대 사령장관 야마모토 이소로쿠 제독의 이야기를 영상화한 전쟁 영화로, 감독은 2011년에 일본에서 화제작으로 떠올랐던 "8일째 매미(八日目の蝉 : 2011)"에서 메가폰을 잡았던 나루시마 이즈루(成島出)가 맡았으며, 주연인 야마모토 제독은 극우 영화 "로렐라이(ロ-レライ : 2005)"에서 함장 역을 맡았던 야쿠쇼 코지(役所広司)가 분해 만들어졌다. 출연자들의 면면을 살펴보면, 근래들어 태평양 전쟁을 소재로 삼은 작품들 - 로렐라이, 한여름의 오리온, 나는 당신을 위해 죽으러 갑니다 등 - 에서 주연이나 조연을 맡았던 배우들이 대거 기용되었다. 제작자도 우리에게는 극우 영화로 잘 알려진 "망국의 이지스(亡國のイ-ジス : 2004)"를 제작했던 프로듀서 고타키 쇼헤이(小滝祥平), 바로 그 사람이다.

Army photographers on leave in Japan take over a geisha house.

A young widow Amy Martin with three young boys is investigated by the Navy after one of her children inadvertently sends out a distress signal in Morse code by the blinds on his upstairs bedroom window. Commander Weedon and crew observe the signal from their ship and investigates. He falls for the young mother and proposes marriage. However, she is reluctant to have her family live out of a suitcase and initially declines. Gramps tries to bring her on board to sail the sea of love with the commander.

Sgt. O'Farrell an Army soldier on an island in the South Pacific during World War II is trying to bring the two basics of life to his fellow servicemen, women and beer. The supply ship carrying the beer is torpedoed and the contingent of nurses consists of six males and ugly nurse Nellie Krause. If he could at least try to salvage the shipment of beer.
