アメリカとロシアの協力によってカザフスタンの独裁者ラデクがついに逮捕された。命令を下した合衆国大統領マーシャルは、モスクワでの会見でテロには決して屈しないことを宣言し大統領専用機（エアフォース・ワン）で帰途についた。だが、その機内にはロシアのTVクルーを装っていた6人のテロリストが潜入していた。テロリストのリーダー、コルシュノフは乗客乗員を人質に取り、アメリカ政府にラデク釈放を要求する。
一見ゴージャスなカップルだが、実は敵対する国際的組織の殺し屋同士。といえば殺伐とした話のようだが、愛し合う者同士だからこそ楽しい、究極の夫婦ゲンカといえそうなのが本作。「ボーン・アイデンティティー」「フェア・ゲーム」のD・リーマン監督は速いテンポでアクションを畳みかけながら、ブラピとジョリーという2大美男美女スターの顔合わせをコミカルかつオシャレに盛り上げている。
太平洋戦争下のフィリピン。マッカーサー将軍が指揮を執る米軍は、日本軍と熾烈な攻防戦を繰り広げていた。ルーズベルト大統領の撤退命令によって一時はオーストラリアへ逃れていたマッカーサーだが、やがて日本軍への逆襲を成功させフィリピンに舞い戻る。そして１９４５年８月、２つの原爆を投下され壊滅状態となった日本は無条件降伏し、マッカーサーはＧＨＱの最高司令官として日本を統治下に置くことになる。
