「チームバチスタの栄光」「ジェネラル・ルージュの凱旋」などで知られる現役医師作家・海堂尊のベストセラー小説を映画化した医療ミステリー。「約三十の嘘」「NANA」の大谷健太郎監督がメガホンをとり、菅野美穂が主演を務める。帝華大学病院の医師で顕微授精のスペシャリスト・曾根崎理恵は、非常勤で廃院寸前の小さな産婦人科医院「マリアクリニック」の院長代理を務めていた。しかし、大学病院のエリート医師・清川吾郎に、そこで国内でタブー視されている遺伝子技術を用いた代理母出産を行ったという疑惑をかけられてしまう。
