미국 굴지의 보험회사 회장의 딸 발레리(Valerie: 셔일라 켈리 분)는 하는 일마다 불운이 따라 아버지 하이스미스에겐 근심 덩어리와 같은 존재였다. 그녀는 혼자 멕시코로 휴가를 떠났다가 휴양지에서 소매치기가 잡아채는 카메라 끈에 걸려 넘어져 기억상실증에 걸린 채 행방 불명된다. 그녀를 찾기 위한 모든 노력이 수포로 돌아가자 마지막 수단으로 정신과 자문의 모노쓰프 박사(Monosoff: 해리 셔러 분)는 발레리의 행동 패턴을 전형적인 불운증후군으로 진단, 그녀를 찾을 수 있는 유일한 길은 불운을 타고 난 사람으로 하여금 불운을 뒤쫓게 하는 수 밖에 없다고 한다. 즉, 발레리와 똑같이 재수 없는 사람을 보내 같은 불운을 겪게 함으로서 추적의 실마리를 찾게 한다는 것. 그래서 찾아낸 사람이 회사 경리부 직원인 프록터(Proctor: 마틴 쇼트 분)였다. 그리고 그와 함께 실종자 수색 전문가 레이먼드(Raymond Campanella: 대니 글로버 분)가 프록터의 감시자 겸 조수로 이번 임무에 동행하게 되는데...

보통의 17살의 여자아이들이 가지고 있는 생기 발랄함과 명랑함 그리고 미래에 대한 꿈과 희망은 제니퍼와 거리가 멀어도 한 참 먼 이야기다. 고딕풍의 옷을 즐기며 죽음에 대한 생각으로 하루하루 고독과 외로움으로 가득찬 생활을 하면서도 겉으로는 마치 아무런 문제도 없다는 듯이 세상을 속이고 자신을 속이며 살고 있었다. 그러다가 어머니와의 끊임 없는 불화로 집에 더 이상 있지 못할 거라는 생각에 동네 옷 가계에 취직하게 되고 가계 주인 랜달과 만나게 된다. 랜달은 보통의 49살 먹은 중년처럼 평범하게 그리고 성실하게 자신의 일을 충실하게 하면서 살아가고 있는 남자다. 처음 제니퍼를 직원으로 받아들였을 때 제니퍼의 옷차림이나 행동에 불만스러웠고 자신을 쳐다보는 눈빛이 마음에 안 들었지만 조금씩 변하는 제니퍼의 모습에 호감이 가기 시작하고 둘의 나이차이에도 불구하고 제니퍼와 랜달의 사이는 점차적으로 가까워지기 시작한다. 서로에 대한 믿음과 신뢰를 갖게 된 두 사람은 처음으로 누군가에게 자신의 속 마음을 털어 놓게 되고 행복하다는 느낌을 받게 된다. 하지만 그 랜달이 불치병에 걸렸다는 사실을 알게 되면서 처음 찾은 행복이 깨질 것만 같은데...

Visa Vuorio (Tobias Zilliacus), a 35-year old team leader at the Helsinki city gardening department, is suffering from a terminal neurological disease and only has a few months to live. Because of this, he is a member of a therapeutical support group for people suffering from terminal diseases. Visa's life changes when a young female reporter, Hanna Manninen (Helena Vierikko), arrives at the support group offering to write a series of articles about Visa's life story.

The film is based on a 2003 novel by the same name, written by Norwegian author Jostein Gaarder. The main character is the young boy Georg who one day finds a long letter from his deceased father. The letter tells, among other things, about the father's youthful love for the mysterious "orange girl" (appelsinpiken), and leaves a mystery for Georg to solve.

Mabel tries to sell hot dogs at a car race, but isn't doing a very good job at it. She sets down the box of hot dogs and leaves them for a moment. Charlie finds them and gives them away to the hungry spectators at the track as Mabel frantically tries to find her lost box of hot dogs. Mabel finds out that Charlie has stolen them and sends the police after him. Chaos ensues.

An exploration of the impact of schizophrenia on a young woman and her family in today's Calcutta. The narrative pivots around the relationship of two sisters, older sister Anjali is a successful professor with a powerful personality. She is the anchoring rock for her family and carer for her sister Meethi whose progression into schizophrenia has been speed ed up by traumatic experiences. Anjali has always dominated the life of her attractive younger sister, and jealously warded off Meethi's handsome fiancé Jojo with fear of Meethi's impending illness. Years later when Meethi and Anjali are on holiday in the Hills there is a chance meeting with Jojo, now with his new wife and children.
