시놉시스
스피이크 리가 자신의 어린 시절을 보낸 브룩클린의 이웃을 소재로 만든 작품. 학교 선생님인 엄마와 재즈 뮤지션인 아빠 그리고 개구장이 5남매가 함께 사는 브룩클린의 카마이클 가족, 비록 넉넉하지는 못한 생활이지만 빈민가에서 이웃들과 서로 싸우기도 웃기도 하면서 즐겁게 살아가고 있다. 특히 옆집에 사는 백인 토미와는 앙숙지간으로 서로 쓰레기를 버리며 충돌이 끊이는 날이 없다. 아빠가 자기만의 음악을 하겠다고 직업을 버리는 바람에 엄마 혼자 살림을 꾸려나가고 있는 카마이클 가족. 결국 전기료를 내지 못해 전기선까지 끊기고 엄마와 아빠는 자식들 중 어린 트로이와 죠셉을 당분간 친척집에 맡긴다. 그러던 어느날 친척집에서 지내던 트로이에게 엄마가 병원에 입원했다는 소식이 날아드는데.

Les Bidasses en Folie, a french movie from 1971, is a very short, easy to watch, slapstick hippie comedy.
배경은 1987년의 미국. 한 고등학교에서 '잘나가는' 여자애 대니엘(Danielle, 주노 템플 분)은 음, 자유분방한 성 생활을 즐긴다고만 해 두자. 어느 날, 그녀는 수업 시간에 약간 성적인 말을 했다고 교장실로 보내진다. 그리고 교장 선생님은 그녀에게 '특별반 수업'을 듣게 만든다. 그녀는 '특별반'은 멍청이들을 위한 거라고, 가기 싫다고 하지만 어쩔 수 없다. 이 과정을 제대로 끝내야지만 다시 다른 아이들과 '정상적'인 수업을 들을 수 있단다. '특별반' 수업 내용은 대개 미국 고등학교 성교육이 그러하듯, 부모가 되는 일의 어려움과 책임을 가르치기 위해 '가짜 아기'를 돌보는 것이다. 그런데 이 학교는 돈이 없어서인지 아니면 그냥 옛날이라 그런지 인형도 아니고 그냥 밀가루 포대 작은 것을 하나씩 나눠준다. 게다가 그녀의 짝으로 선정된 남자애는 의기소침하고 후디 모자를 푹 덮어 쓴 게이 남자애 클라크(Clarke, 제레미 도지어 분)다. 선생님은 짝이 된 사람들끼리 아기의 이름을 짓고, 밀가루 포대에 얼굴을 그리고 옷을 입히는 등 꾸며서 오라고 숙제를 내준다. 대니엘은 이 바보 같은 짓에 참여하고 싶지 않지만, 그녀의 '명성'은 이미 '특별반 수업이나 듣는 애'로 추락해 버렸고, 덕분에 마음에 드는 남자애를 유혹하는 데도 실패한다. 그 남자애가 그냥 그녀를 비웃고 가 버린 것이다. 어쩔 수 없이 클라크를 자기 차에 태워 집에 데리고 온 그녀. 아기 이름을 뭐라고 지을까 클라크가 묻자 '조안(Joan)'이 어떻겠느냐고 한다. 대니엘은 여성 록 스타 '조안 제트(Joan Jett)' 같아 좋다고 했는데 클라크는 아름다운 여배우 '조안 크로포드(Joan Crawford)' 같다고 좋단다. 그녀는 그의 게이스러움에 머리를 절레절레 흔들지만, 그래도 어찌어찌 숙제는 하면서 조금씩 그와 친해지는데...
