사고로 아내를 잃고, 혼자서 딸을 보살피며 사는 싱글 대디 '유하' . 일과 육아의 반복된 일상에서 외로운 나날을 견디던 유하는 우연히 SM 클럽을 방문하고, 낯선 여자를 통해 '마조히즘'의 짜릿한 쾌감을 경험하게 된다. 목이 졸리면서 죽음에 가까워지는 순간, 환희의 절정을 느끼게 된 남자는 점점 강한 자극을 원하게 되는데...

미국 테네시 주 멤피스를 배경으로 세 개의 큰 에피소드가 엮여 있다. 먼저 ‘요코하마에서 멀리'에는 엘비스 프레슬리를 찾아 멤피스로 온 일본인 커플 준(나가세 마사토시)과 미츠코(구도 유키)의 이야기를, ’유령'은 비행기 운항 문제로 멤피스에 발이 묶인 한 이탈리아 여자 루이사(니콜레타 브라치)가 낯선 여자와 함께 모텔 방에 함께 묵다가 엘비스 프레슬리의 유령을 만난다는 이야기를, 그리고 마지막 ‘로스트 인 스페이스’는 술김에 범죄를 저지른 두 명의 백인남자와 한 흑인 남자가 벌이는 소동을 그린다. 영화는 같은 모텔을 빌려 이 세 이야기를 차례로 보여준다. 게다가 그는 아주 간단하면서도 재치 있는 몇 가지 요소, 특히 라디오에서 흘러나오는 엘비스 프레슬리의 ‘블루 문’으로 이것이 같은 시각에 겹쳐 일어난 사건임을 알려준다. 이렇게 짐 자무시는 세 개의 서로 다른 에피소드가 같은 모텔에서 일어나는 일임을 차례로 보여주는 한편, 영화 말미에는 아무런 관계가 없는 이 인물들을 같은 기차 안에서 만나게 함으로써 삶과 인간, 세상에 대한 그의 시선을 단적으로 드러내 보이고 있다.

교통수단은 자전거, 일터는 도서관, 고질병은 무대울렁증. 무대 경험은 방구석 1열뿐인 12년 차 메탈바라기 시골 밴드. 어느 날, 대규모 메탈 축제 담당자가 우연히 동네에 찾아오고 용기를 내 데모 테이프를 전달한다. 단 한번도 계획대로 된 적은 없지만 지금이 아니면 안 된다고 생각한 그들, 축제가 열리는 노르웨이로 무작정 찾아가기로 하는데…

천재 음악가 알렉스는 위험에 빠진 도시를 벗어나 어린 시절을 보낸 고향으로 돌아간다. 오랜 시간 연락을 끊고 지낸 아버지와 첫사랑 안나를 만난 알렉스는 재회의 감정을 느낄 틈도 없이 미스터리한 재난의 습격과 마주한다. 걷잡을 수 없을 만큼 커진 공격은 정부와 군인의 방어로도 역부족인 상태에 다다르고, 모든 사람들 위협하기 시작하는데… 정체불명의 이 공격은 어디서부터 시작됐을까?

특별할 것 없는 작은 상점에서 각각 일하는 열일곱의 모니카와 열아홉의 해리는 우연히 바에서 첫만남을 갖게 된 후 연인이 된다. 모니카는 남루한 현실과는 다른 인생을 꿈꾸지만, 부적절한 희롱이 난무하는 일터에서 퇴근해 가족과 함께 살고 있는 허름한 아파트로 돌아오면 그녀를 기다리는 것은 알코올중독 아버지의 학대뿐이다. 해리에게로 피한 모니카는 해리의 모터보트에 숨어 밤을 보내고, 그로 인해 다음날 직장에 늦게 되어 사장의 비난을 들은 해리는 사표를 던지고 모니카와 함께 배를 타고 스톡홀름에서 멀리 떠나버리기로 결정한다. 스톡홀름 군도의 한 작은 섬에 내린 두 사람은 야생에 가까운 환경에서 둘 만의 꿈같은 여름을 보낸다. 그러나 여름이 끝나가고 돈이 떨어지자 더 이상 섬에서의 도피생활은 지속될 수 없게 되고, 둘은 다시 도시의 삶으로 돌아가야만 한다. 임신과 결혼 등, 꿈과는 다른 성장통들이 기다리고 있는 도시에서 모니카와 해리는 각자의 방식대로 삶을 받아들이게 되는데..

젊은 두 남녀의 사랑을 다룬다. 이들이 함께 경험하는 불확실성, 두려움, 상냥함 그리고 즐거움이 영화 속에 묘사된다. 하지만 그 이면에는 복지 사회에서 길을 잃은 부모 세대들의 현실이 존재한다. 그들은 자동차 수리센터와 냉장고 대리점에서의 무료한 일상을 이어가며 미래를 향한 꿈을 잊고 살아간다.

September of 1944, a few days before Finland went out of the Second World War. A chained to a rock Finnish sniper-kamikadze Veikko managed to set himself free. Ivan, a captain of the Soviet Army, arrested by the Front Secret Police 'Smersh', has a narrow escape. They are soldiers of the two enemy armies. A Lapp woman Anni gives a shelter to both of them at her farm. For Anni they are not enemies, but just men.

남자 X가 살인 장면을 목격한다. 현장에 다가간 X는 예상 밖의 일을 저지른 후 황급히 자리를 떠난다. 남자 Z는 새 일자리를 구한다. 20년이나 일했다는 전 직원이 썼던 차를 정리하던 Z는 이해할 수 없는 암호로 가득한 공책을 발견한다. 수로 개발을 두고 의견이 분분하자 팍토로비치는 남자 H를 고용한다. 남자 H는 이유도 모른 채 강을 따라가며 교각이나 기둥의 사진을 찍어야만 한다. 정체불명의 세 인물을 중심으로 한 세 줄기의 이상야릇한 이야기가 펼쳐지며, 모든 이야기는 마치 책을 읽어 주는 듯한 내레이션을 통해 전해진다.

End of an Era is a BluRay, DVD and double CD from the Finnish symphonic metal Nightwish. Recorded at the Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland on October 21st. 2005, the final concert of a long worldwide tour for their album Once. During the concert the band was joined on-stage by John Two-Hawks, who performed "Stone People" from his album Honor as an introduction to "Creek Mary's Blood", which featured his voice and cedar flutes. Hawaii, Oslo is the story of a handful of people who cross each other's path without necessarily knowing each other, during the hottest day of the year, in Oslo. We follow Frode and Milla. They are having their first child, who they are told will not live long. We follow Bobbie-Pop, a faded singer who tries to commit suicide. We follow Leon, an institutionalized kleptomaniac who is loking for Åsa, to whom he has a ten year old deal to get married. We meet Leon's brother, Trygve, who fetches Leon at the institution to celebrate his birthday, but who himself has plans to use his leave from prison to run away. And most of all we meet the angel Vidar, Leon's best buddy at the institution, who sees things no one else can see, and who may be able to save everyone - except himself?

The Swedish summer is on and Göran, recently dumped by his girlfriend, is searching for the woman of his dreams. Göran is not altogether in harmony with himself or his work situation and is trying a little bit too hard to please everyone around him. In rural Sweden of the early 1950s, little Elina goes to school again after recovering from tuberculosis, the same illness that has killed her father a few years earlier. Elina's family belongs to Finnish-speaking Finns frowned upon by a staunch schoolmistress who starts hounding Elina for questioning her authority. Elina's mother, sister, and a liberal young male teacher all try to mediate the ensuing battle of wills between Elina and Miss Holm.
