The Summer Book tells the story of the relationship between Sophia, an eight-year-old girl who is growing up fast, and her grandmother, who is nearing the end of her life. They are spending time together with Sophia’s father, at the family summer house on a tiny unspoiled island in the Gulf of Finland. All three are coming to terms with the recent death of Sophia’s mother in very different ways.

An aspiring writer desperately seeks out his first novel to propel his career. His wife, the wealthy owner of an art gallery becomes suspicious of his endeavours and instigates a game of cat and mouse to unravel his secrets.

The Kingdom is the perfect blend of intense thriller and Shakespearean drama; Jo Nesbø’s version of Cain and Abel. Maria, an emotionally-stunted transgender punk on an aimless road trip across the country has a chance encounter with James H., a repressed minimum-wage worker trapped in the purgatory that is rural Nevada. Doctor Sanada treats gangster Matsunaga after he is wounded in a gunfight, and discovers that he is suffering from tuberculosis. Sanada tries to convince Matsunaga to stay for treatment, which would drastically change his lifestyle. They form an uneasy friendship until Matsunaga's old boss Okada returns from prison.

Kaji is sent to the Japanese army labeled Red and is mistreated by the vets. Along his assignment, Kaji witnesses cruelties in the army and revolts against the abusive treatment against the recruit Obara. He also sees his friend Shinjô Ittôhei defecting to the Russian border, and he ends in the front to fight a lost battle against the Russian tanks division.

「怪談」の小林正樹監督が三船敏郎と初タッグを組み、1967年・第28回ベネチア国際映画祭で国際映画批評家連盟賞を受賞した時代劇。同監督作「切腹」の原作小説「異聞浪人記」で知られる滝口康彦の短編小説「拝領妻始末」をもとに橋本忍が脚色を手がけ、武家社会の非人間性を描く。会津松平藩馬廻り役の笹原伊三郎は、主君・松平正容の側室いちを長男・与五郎の妻に拝領するよう命じられる。息子の幸福な結婚を願う伊三郎は断ろうとするが、藩命に背くことはできず受け入れることに。望んだ結婚ではなかったものの、与五郎といちの間には愛情が芽生え、子どもにも恵まれる。しかし正容の嫡子が急死したことから、新たな世継ぎとなった菊千代の生母であるいちを大奥へ返上するよう命令が下される。
