시놉시스
영화는 미국 메인 주의 작은 시골 마을 구성원들이 서로 어떻게 연결되는지 파헤친다. 마을 통학버스 운전수인 레슬리는 하루 일과를 마치며 점검을 하다 주의력이 흐려져서 버스 뒷좌석에서 자는 소년을 미처 보지 못한다. 그 다음 벌어지는 사건들은 벌목이 주업인 평온했던 이 작은 마을을 송두리채 흔들어 버린다. 레슬리는 감당하기 어려운 죄책감에 시달리며 힘을 잃어간다. 엎친 데 덮친 격으로 그 지역 벌목업자인 남편은 마을 제지공장이 곧 문을 닫을 예정이라는 통보를 받고, 소년의 젊은 어머니 말라는 앙심을 품고 이 미묘한 상황을 이용하려고 한다. 메인 주의 황량하고 차가운 언덕에서 촬영한 는 배경이 가져다 주는 외롭지만 아름다운 톤을 소름 끼칠 정도로 잘 잡아내며 관객이 마치 그 자리에 가 있는 느낌을 주는 완성도 높은 작품이다. 사소한 행동조차도 엄청난 결과를 가져올 수 있다는 것을 보여주는 는 작가 겸 감독 랜스 에드먼즈의 장편 데뷔작이다.
