豊かな自然に恵まれた田舎町。右田そよは、小中学生合わせても全校生徒がわずか6人しかいない分校に通う中学2年生。そんなある日、その学校に東京からひとりの男子生徒・大沢広海が転校してくる。そよにとっては初めての同級生で、しかも都会的な匂いを自然にまとったイケメンの彼の様子に、彼女の心は思わずときめく。当初はクールでちょっととっつきにくい彼に戸惑いを覚えるそよだったが、やがて2人は恋人同士となる。

夏休み。小学生のノリミチは、両親の離婚のため、夏休み後に転校が決まった同級生ナズナから今夜の花火大会に一緒に行こうと誘われるが、ナズナは家出しようとしており、ノリミチはそれに付き合わされそうになる。一方、ノリミチの仲間たち、ジュンイチらは、打ち上げ花火が横から見ても丸いのか、それとも平べったいのか、花火大会に行って実際に見て確かめようと決めていた。ナズナは引き続いて家出する決心を固めていた。

古代ローマの浴場設計技師ルシウス・モデストゥスは、ローマの公衆浴場から21世紀の日本の銭湯に突然タイムスリップしてしまう。以後、古代ローマと現代日本の浴場を何度も往復し、その都度数々の設備や工夫を目の当たりにすることになる。 一方、漫画家志望の若い日本人女性である山越真実は、ルシウスが現代日本に出現するたびに彼に接触することになり大いに興味を引かれる。

大晦日を迎えた「ホテルアバンティ」では、ホテルの威信がかかった年越しカウントダウンパーティーの準備で大忙し。そんな中でも副支配人の新堂平吉（役所広司）は、様々な問題に機転を利かせて対応するのだが……。

Nami has been creating artwork for a new video game based on images she's been seeing in her dreams. With one of the game producers, she travels out to an abandoned house that seems to match her visions. As they explore the old mansion, Nami begins to have more visions of a forgotten childhood, until at last she comes across a photo of twin infants, labelled "Nami" and "Naomi". As Nami and the producer go from room to room, an unseen person seems to be watching them from a hidden room.

Mitsuko, a thirty-something Japanese secretary, lives a very simple life devoid of ambition. She has an affair with Eiji, a rich, arrogant and newly divorced businessman who is intrigued by her retiring personnality but she quickly breaks up as he repeatedly tries to make her change her lifestyle and values. While Eiji ponders the reasons of the breakup, Mitsuko falls for one of her neighbours, a young slacker who has the same approach to life as her. An unemployed man trying to steal from a convenience store, and the store clerk catches him in the act. the thief runs away with the store-clerk right after him. All the while, the store clerk is in trouble with a low-rank yakuza. Along the chase for the thief, they catch the eye of the Yakuza who's been looking for the convenience store clerk.
